Reflective Essay

“I am convinced that nothing we do is more important than hiring and developing

people. At the end of the day, you bet on people not on strategies.” – Lawrence Bossidy

One of the quotes that have had an impact on how I see Human Resource
Management works. Why do we need to assess the applicants before we hire? Do we
pick randomly? Do we choose because of their status? Or do we select those people to
fill the spot on that job?

The importance of selecting the best individuals during the hiring process is to know if
they will be fit for that position, assess their skills, and of course, their behavior when
they step up to an Interview. Even though it takes time to find the right candidate, it can
save your time on the training process. Having the right qualifications will be ready to
work right away and have only need a few hours of training. Also, doing different tests
like the Cognitive Aptitude test, Job Knowledge test, Personality test, Work Sample test,
etc., is the best opportunity to know and measure their skills and knowledge to that
specific job.

Choosing the right candidate for that specific position, make sure the skills are aligned
and knowledgeable to the job they’re applying and more importantly if you can see their
potential to help and offer such good quality on their work. We didn’t pick randomly; we
are picking the best ones. We don’t care for their status but we do care for their
background work performance and lastly, we do not hire just to fill in the spot.
