A Giving Hand That Hits The

this piece of my research in
connecton with what I observed
from the Internatonal Financial
Insttutons with regard to
their conditonal aid to
developing natons. In this short
research, I need to express my
concerns
over why IFIs give aid to
developing countries
conditonally and why the
developing countries
end up in big debts. It is the
hand that give and hit the
receiver at the same tme.
Countries like
Zimbabwe are in big debts
because of the loan they get
from IMF, The World Bank and
African
Development Bank
(Globalizaton101, 2016).
Because of these loans, the
country is in bad
image and can not get further
financial assistance from
internatonal community because
of a
bad reputaton of failing to pay
back the money owed.
I think what makes it hard for
these developing countries to
work well with the borrowed
money is the conditons imposed
by the IFIs and their policies
which work on all countries
regardless of the politcal-
economic situatons. The IMF or
World Bank give guidelines on
how to
use the money and policies on
how to develop the economy
which do not t a naton. One
strategy works with a single
partcular country not all the
world countries.
After a country fails to achieve
what they expect, the IFIs will
then discontnue the
disbursement of the funds tll the
country pays back all the owed
money. Thus living them in big
debts. Like Pakistan, has
received a lot of money and
how will it return the money
(Answar,2019).

Week 4 Written Assignment

For this unit’s Written Assignment, you will utilize the UoPeople library to find 2-3 sources for
your own research paper. You will then create a 2-3 paragraph Literature Review based upon
your own analysis and synthesis of those sources. You grade will primarily focus on the use of
your own ideas to group together your sources for your own research paper. Your ability to
create and give credit via APA In-Text Citations and a Reference page is also a focus.

If you need an extra tip for this process, refer back to the University of Cumbria’s critical reading
questions you have worked with in the past units.

I did research related to the general attitude of western institutions, World Health Organization,
International Monetary Fund, United Nations etc. We have seen repeatedly that these
organizations, dressed the garb of savior and helper does not actually help or save the
countries or the people they claim to save. The “Aid” provided by IMF is always conditional. UN
has effectively failed to solve many highly explosive conflicts still going on in the world and in
turn not achieving its one goal of working towards world peace. As far as WHO is concerned,
during the time of the pandemic, we realized whose lives matter more for WHO. In this short
research, I am expressing my concerns over why IMF give aid to developing countries
conditionally and why the developing countries end up in big debts. It is the hand that gives and
hits the receiver at the same time. Countries in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and eastern
and western Africa are in big debts because of the loan they get from IMF, The World Bank and
African Development Bank (Globalizaton101, 2016). Now I am not against the countries bailing
themselves out of sticky situations with these loans but the above-mentioned institutions take
advantage of these countries by setting conditions that will eventually turn the country into a
begging state (Jabbawi, 2017). The conditions set forth to provide loans to developed countries
cannot be same for the developing countries due to the fact that many of these developing
countries were once colonized nations and are still struggling to get back to a stable position.
Similarly, the developed countries pressure on WHO to not equally distribute the covid19
vaccine in the developing countries, all the while knowing that majority of the world’s population
reside in these countries is another example of being treated by the more fortunate as less than
they are. This is Neo-Colonialism (Jabbawi, 2017). Because of these loans, the country is in bad
image and cannot get further financial assistance from international community because of a
bad reputation of failing to pay back the money owed. Currently, there are many conflicts raging
across the globe. I understand these are nuanced matters but looking at history, we can see
that even the many preventable and solvable conflicts were not mediated in and therefore they
sometimes gave extremely violent results. We can see UN repeating the same old patterns
today as well.
