III. Learning Tasks:

Teacher’s Activity Pupils’ Activity

A. Engagement
1. Drill Collaborative
(The teacher will play a planet song with an
action- video presentation)
“THE PLANET SONG”
Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune
These are the 8 planets in the milky way
So come and sing the planet song with us
Mercury is the smallest and closest to the sun Venus is - The pupils will sing and follow the action.
the hottest, so you better bring a fan Earth is our
beautiful home, sweet home
And Mars is the red planet next to us.

Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune
These are the 8 planets in the milky way
So come and sing the planet song with us
Jupiter’s the biggest planet of them all
Saturn is the one with the awesome rings
Uranus is sideways so you better hang on
And Neptune has the strongest winds

So come and sing the planet song with us!
Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune
These are the 8 planets in the Milky Way
So now you know the planets name them all.
- Yes, it was all about the inner planets.

- The inner planets are closer to the Sun

and are smaller and rockier planet.
2. Review:
- They are called terrestrial planets
Do you still remember the last lesson
because their surfaces are solid.
that we tackled? What was all about?
- The four inner planets are Mercury,
How do you define inner planets?
Venus, Earth and Mars.

Can you give the four inner planets in

the solar system?

Very good!

3. Motivation:
(The teacher will show mock-up
pictures of the planets and solar system
for the pupils to get interested, that they
may be identify accordingly.)

- I have noticed that the solar system is

composed of different planets.
- There are also two groups of planets that
we have seen.

- The planets that we’ve seen are Mercury,

Venus, Earth, and Mars
What have you notice with the pictures?

- The second group of planets are Jupiter,

Saturn, Uranus and Neptune
Will you name the planets that you see in
the first group, what are they?

Good!

How about the other one?

B. Presentation/Discussion
1. From that animated pictures that you have
seen are the inner and outer planets. We
already know the inner planets.

What we will do now is to describe and

classify the other group of planets. Let us
take it one by one. Inquiry Based Learning
- That is Jupiter
- Jupiter is the fifth planet and largest
planet in our Solar System with a mass
more than three hundred times Earth’s
mass.
- Jupiter is not only the largest planet, it
also has the most moons – 63 identified so
What is this planet? far.
Can you describe the Jupiter? What can you - Jupiter is one of the brightest objects in
say about this? the sky and has a very stormy
atmosphere.

Very Good!

- That planet is called Saturn.

- Saturn is the sixth planet and best
known for its prominent ring system —
seven known rings with well-defined
divisions and gaps between them.
- Saturn’s rings are the most visible
ones.

How about this one? What planet is this?

How do you describe the Saturn?

- That is the planet Uranus.

- Uranus is the seventh planet and has
the smallest mass of the outer planets.
- It is made of a large atmosphere of
methane with a dense core of frozen
Will you name the given picture?
methane.
- It’s the only giant planet whose equator
Can you give its characteristics?
is nearly at right angles to its orbit — it
basically orbits on its side.
- It is the only planet to rotate on its
side.

Good!

- That planet is called Neptune.

- Neptune is the final planet in the solar

system. It has a rocky core.
Another one, what is this? - Neptune is known for strong winds —
Can you give its description and sometimes faster than the speed of sound.
characteristics? - Neptune is far out and cold. The planet is
more than 30 times as far from the sun as
Earth

2. Let us try to see the planets that we have

describe together. These planets are
classified accordingly.

These planets: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and

Neptune are planets that are so much larger
than the other planets and are separated by
the asteroid belt.

So, taking a look with all of these planet

are grouped namely?

What can you say about the outer planets?

- These are called the outer planets.

- The outer planets (sometimes called

Jovian planets or gas giants) are huge
planets swaddled in gas.
Again, what are the planets that are - They all have rings and all of plenty of
grouped into the outer planets? moons each.
- The outer planets are further away,
larger and made up mostly of gas.
C. Fixing Skills:
Group Activity Collaborative
The class will be equally grouped into four - The outer planets are Jupiter, Saturn,
(4), they will be given puzzled picture of Uranus and Neptune.
planet. Each group will arrange the puzzle,
then identify the name of the outer planet
and give a short description about it.
Group 1 – Jupiter
Group 2 – Saturn
Group 3 – Uranus
Group 4 – Neptune
Before you go to your group, let us
remember the standard in doing the activity
1. Listen attentively to the instructions.
2. Be careful in using and handling basic - Each group will show their output
materials.
3. Follow the time allotment for the
activity.
4. Be cooperative in group work.
5. Observe keenly in gathering data.

D. Generalization:
What are the outer planets in the solar
system and their characteristics?
- The outer planets in the solar system
are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and
Neptune, they are the planets that
are further away from the Sun,
larger than the other planets and
mostly made up of gas.

E. Value Infusion: Integrative Teaching

How many of you have experience viewing
in a planetarium?
- It feel so wonderful that we have a

beautiful and balanced outer space.
As a pupil, how can you maintain the

can lessen the dirt and pollution that
gives harmful effect to the planets.
- Continue to support the Clean and
Green projects which can save the
planets.

F. Application: Constructivism
Identify the picture of outer planets
below then give its corresponding name by
rearranging the jumbled letters given and
match it with the correct description.

Outer Planets Name Description

PIUJETR a. The sixth planet from the sun is known

most for its rings.

RAUUSN b. It is known for strong winds —

sometimes faster than the speed of
sound.

NTEPNUE c. It is the largest planet in our Solar

System

ASURNT d. It’s the only giant planet whose equator

is nearly at right angles to its orbit — it
basically orbits on its side.

IV. Evaluation: Constructivism

Identify the following statement, complete the letter box given in each number. Write your
answer in your notebook.
1. It is the fifth planet and largest planet in our Solar System with a mass
more than three hundred times Earth’s mass.

2. It is best known for its prominent ring system — seven known rings with
well-defined divisions and gaps between them.

3. These planets are further away, larger and made up mostly of gas.

4. It’s the only giant planet whose equator is nearly at right angles to its
orbit — it basically orbits on its side.

5. It is the farthest planet and known for strong winds — sometimes faster
than the speed of sound.

V. Assignment:
Draw the four inner planets in a long bond paper then identify its name and make a short
description. Attached it in your notebook.
