Q20. Read the following and answer any four questions from 20 (i) to 20 (v).
The acidic or basic nature of a liquid is important in determining the uses of the liquid. The enzymes in
stomach liquids, which are acidic, aid in digestion. The strong acidic or basic nature of toilet bowl cleaners
promotes effective cleaning. The acidity of automobile battery fluids makes the production of electrical
energy possible. Sometimes there is too much of one or the other and problems arise as a result For example,
if our stomachs are too acidic we get a stomachache. Whether a liquid is acidic, basic, or neutral is measured
by a quantity called pH. pH is an important quantity that reflects the chemical conditions of a solution.
The pH can control the availability of nutrients, biological functions, microbial activity, and the behavior
of chemicals. Given below are the pH values of some common substances:

questions.
Rina was a very curious child, she wanted to establish a relationship between potential difference across
a conductor and current flowing through it. For this she sets up an electric circuit. Comprising a nichrome
wire XY, ammeter A, voltmeter V, plug key K and 5 cells of same voltage (let's say 1.5 V each).
First she used one cell as a source of current in the circuit and noted the reading of ammeter and
voltmeter. Then she repeated the above steps using two, three, four and five cells, and noted the readings
which are given in the table below:
I (ampere) 0.5 1.0 2.0 3.0 4.0
V (volts) 1.2 2.5 4.7 7.3 9.5
(a)Plot a graph between V and I and calculate the resistance of that resistor.

difference across its terminals. Define the phenomenon/law used to calculate the resistance of that
resister.
(c) Does this phenomenon/law hold good under all conditions? Comment
