Boiler Preservation:

 Empty out the boiler. Flush the boiler with DM water of pH about
9, till clear water comes out of drain. Drain the boiler completely.
 Fill the DM tank with about 150 m3 DM water. Add hydrazine to
maintain about 200 PPM hydrazine concentration. Add Morphelene
and ammonia solution to boost up the pH about 11.0 to 11.5 . Mix
the solution thoroughly. A pump may be used by recirculating
water back to the tank for proper mixing.
 Close all boiler drains including superheater drains. Open all boiler
and superheater vents.
 Pump the water with above chemicals to the boiler and fill the
boiler till water comes from all vents like similar to taking
hydrotest. Now close all the vents. Raise the pressure of boiler
about 10 to 15 kg/cm2.
 Stop the pump and maintain the pressure.
 When pressure comes below 3 kg/cm2, restart the pump and
boost up the pressure again. Keeping the boiler pressurized will
ensure that no air entrains the boiler.
 The chemical concentration must be checked daily for first three
days and based on experience the frequency may be reduced to 3
to 6 days.

Note : If pH is boosted up above 11 using hydrazine, Morphelene and

ammonia, TSP addition is not essential. Since cold water is being
used, it is not advisable to add TSP in DM tank. However, during
filling of water in boiler some TSP may be dosed using HP dosing
pump.
