Abstract:

Authentic data about road accidents is not available, still, preliminary data indicate that
Indian roads are witnessing higher incidents of road accidents.

The case study examines the technology solutions such as: installation of speed
indication display on the roads which inform the vehicle about it's speed limit, fixing of
speed governor devices which put a cap on the speed that can be achieved that is
below the vehicle's natural maximum speed, fixing of Variable Message Signs which
can display important information needs to be communicated to the commuters, use of
LIDAR gun, which is a tool that helps law enforcers to catch and book vehicles that
cross the speed limit, use of Inductive loops which can help in traffic control.
