Apologetics

1172
1 PETER 3:15-16: but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy always being prepared to
make defense to anyone who aks you for a reason for the hope that is in you yet do it with
gentleness and respect, having a good conscience so that when you are slandered those who
revile your good behaviour in Christ may be put to shame.

PRESUPPOSITIONAL APOLOGETICS:

Presuppositional apologetics is a thoroughly refomred approched to apologetics. It functions

upon the foundational understanding of reformed theology.
4 basic tents to understand presuppositional apologetics
1. Ultimate commitment to scriptures
2. Antithesis to non-Christian philosophies.
3. Point of contact with the
unbelievers.
4. Transcendal Argument of God.

1) Ultimate commitment to scriptures:

Ultimate commitment to Christ the Lord;
Presuppositional apologetics begins with total submission to the Lordship of Jesus Christ (1
PET. 3:15-16). To do apologetics we must commit ourselves to a Christian knowledge of the
world.

Revelation of God as the starting point;

God is self existing. God does not rely on anything instead everything is created by God. We
can't have the true knowledge without the revelation of God.

No other standard;
Only the revelation of God in the Bible leads us to have true knowledge.

2) Antithesis to non-Christian philosophies:

A different world;
Beleiever lives in a covenant relationship with God, the unbeliever lives in a covenant rebellion
against God.
Myth of Neutrality;
The Neutrality is myth and nothing but compromising the Lordship of Christ.

3) Point of Contact with unbeliever:

The common ground:
Though the believer and unbeliever share different views to each other both believer and
unbeliever are made in the image of God and living in the same world created by God.
4) Transcendal Argument of God:
We need God's revelation to prove the truth of God to others (Prov. 26:4).
It is impossible to share the truth of God without the revelation of God (Prov. 26:5)

The veracity of the Bible:

How can we trust the Bible?

It is the word of God. No prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from
God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit (2 PET. 1:21). It is breathed out by God. It is
profitable for teaching for refroof for correction, and to equip good work (2 TIM. 3:16-17)
It is circular reasoning. It is sefl-refrential and self attested.
