We all know that the most important element of a

tuning project hinges on whether the tuning company
played around with the car’s engine. Sure, aesthetic and
New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011

aerodynamic modifications make for great eye candy,

but for the most part, the joy still lies on what kind of

http://cargoogler.blogspot.com/ 3

http://cargoogler.blogspot.com/

powertrain upgrades are done on the car.

MR Car Design opted to go to this route with their latest

upgrade for the suave and sexy Maserati Quattroporte.
With a powertrain that features a 4.6-liter Ferrari V8
engine, MR Car Design gave the engine a software
New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011

upgrade while also adding a new custom exhaust

system, bumping up the luxury saloon’s output from 400
horsepower and 339 lb/ft of torque all the way up to 430
ponies and 361 lb/ft of torque.

While the program doesn’t have a whole lot of aesthetic

and aerodynamic changes, the German tuner
nevertheless gave it a few tweaks here and there,
including tinted windows, new tail pipe designs, a set of
adjustable H&R sport springs that lowered the ride
height by 20 to 30mm, and a set of 22” Vossen alloy
wheels wrapped in 245/30 R22 tires at the front and
295/25 R22 tires at the back.

For a car like the Maserati Quattroporte, sometimes

subtle is the way to go. Of course, it’s always a plus if
the car’s already powerful engine gets a bump up too.

Okay, so this isn’t exactly the most surprising news of

the day, but it sure ranks up there with the coolest. Audi
is said to be launching a Spyder version for the R8 GT at
the Frankfurt Motor Show this Fall. As with the coupe
version, the Spyder will be limited to 333 units and
should be priced at about $20,000 higher than the coupe,
which is sold for about $196,800 in the U.S. The
similarities will even extend to the number of units
available in the U.S. We last heard that we were getting
90 units of the GT Coupe and we expect the same
number for the Spyder version.

Under the hood, Audi will place the same 5.2 liter V10
engine that delivers a total of 560 HP and 398 lbs-ft of
torque, but because of the soft-top, the future spyder
version will only have a top speed of 193mph, 6mph less
than the coupe. The added weight is obviously
necessary, but does go away from Audi’s original weight-
savings goal for the R8 GT. In order to achieve the 220
lbs weight loss for the Audi R8 GT Coupe, the company
used a new carbon fiber liftback, a fixed rear wing,
modified brake calipers, reduced engine-bay sound

deadening, and a lighter windscreen. We expect them to

provide similar treatment for the convertible version of
the R8 GT.

After seeing the first sketches of the R8 GT Spyder,

MotorAuthority has finally caught the car testing in
Europe. The most powerful and lighter R8 Spyder ever
will be revealed for the first time at the Le Mans 24
hours endurance race in June 2011 and will make its
world debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show in
September.

Rumors about an Audi R4 sports car have been

circulating for a very long time now. Audi has denied its
existence a few times, but Volkswagen announcing
three different production versions of the BlueSport
concept has brought the R4 back out on the table. The
New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011

first rumors suggested the model would be revealed in

2010, but that was obviously not the case. The R4 will
actually be revealed in 2014 as a 2015 model and will
share its platform with the new entry-level Porsche and
Volkswagen two-seaters.

http://cargoogler.blogspot.com/ 9
New Cars 2011
http://cargoogler.blogspot.com/

When talking with AutoCar about the new R4, an Audi

source said: "We have not abandoned plans for a
roadster along the lines of the E-tron Spyder. We have
reached a stage where we are moving forward and are
now in the process of progressing the business case
further, but it won’t go on sale until after the third-
generation TT."

This statement can be translated into the fact that the

R4 won’t hit the market until late 2014 and it will be
designed in such a manner that it won’t hurt the sales of
both the Audi TT and the Audi R8 supercar, meaning it
will be placed somewhere in the middle.

Ever since Volkswagen unveiled the BlueSport concept

at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show, we’ve heard plenty "to
be or not to be" rumors about a possible production

http://cargoogler.blogspot.com/ 11

version. Now we can finally confirm, without any doubts,

that the Volkswagen Group will offer three different
versions of this concept. Audi, Porsche, and Volkswagen
will each have their own version of the concept with
different levels of sportiness and performance,
butSkoda and Seat will be left out of the mix.

Starting with Audi, their production version will be

inspired by the E-tron Spyder concept and will be
offered with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-pot and 2.5-
liter five-cylinder units, priced at around $45,000. The
Porsche model will take its design cues from the iconic
1953 550 Spyder and will be offered with a twin-
turbocharged engine with an output of about 380 HP. It
is also believed that the Porsche model will be called
the 550 as a tribute to the classic model. Prices will be in
the $52K area. The Volkswagen model will, in fact, be
the only version taking its design inspiration from the
BlueSport concept. It will feature a turbocharged 1.4-
liter four-cylinder engine with an output of about 170
HP. This will be the cheapest version with prices starting
from around $30K. New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011

The three models will stare the same platform, but their
interiors will deliver different levels of luxury by featuring parts
- such as instrument panels and dials - that are unique to each
model. This type of differentiation was successful with the Q7,
the Cayenne, and the Touareg SUVs so Volkswagen is sure to
recreate that success with the three roadster models.

When Lotus announced that a production version Elan

would never happen, they also announced that the next
generation Evora would receive some aesthetic changes
and new trim levels to align it with the rest of the
"Lotus New Era" range. These things are typically better
on paper then they are in practice, but a leaked image of
the future model illustrates these exact predictions.
New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011

The new Evora is expected to debut in 2013 and it seems

it will include no less than 150 changes compared to the
current model. These changes were made in order to
make the Evora a serious competitor for the Porsche

http://cargoogler.blogspot.com/ 13

models in existence. Lotus’ ex-Ferrari design boss,

Donato Coco, said that these changes were necessary to
make up for the lack of aggression in the current
model’s design. The next Evora will feature this added
aggression, but will also continue the same design
language that started with the Lotus 18 single-seater at
the beginning of the 1960s.

We’ll keep our eyes and ears open for any more
information on the future of the Evora so stay tuned!

Car companies working together usually goes well. Of

course, there are some instances when partnerships
have gone wrong. The combination of Chrysler and
New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011

Mercedes-Benz was the worse German-American

partnership since Mr. Busch met Mr. Anheuser and
developed that tasteless brew called Budweiser. Those
keen TopGear watchers will know that’s not our joke,
but it worked here anyways.

http://cargoogler.blogspot.com/ 15
New Cars 2011

The same can be said of Daewoo and Chevrolet. Sure,

they made some cheap cars, but they were just terrible.
In fact, they might have set Chevrolet back a few years
in Europe, due to cheapness image they still have.

We’re not sure if this is going to happen with Toyota and

Subaru. Both of these companies are strong and create
wonder vehicles that are fun to drive on one end and
practical on the other. This combination might make for
the best all-around Japanese entry-level sports car we
have ever seen.
Automotive News has unveiled new details on the
Subaru FT-86 sports car set to be revealed later this
year at the Tokyo Auto Show. Subaru expects a longer-
than-average life cycle for the car and is looking at
variant packages, including a possible STI version.
However, while the usual STI models are all about being
turbocharged, the FT-86 STI will keep the engine
naturally aspirated. The sports car will be offered with
the new generation 2.0-liter, four-cylinder boxer engine
combined with manual or automatic transmission.

You know Le Mans season is fast approaching when

teams set to compete in the legendary race are one by

one introducing their 2011 racers to the public. One

team that’s scheduled to participate in the 24-hour
endurance race is Flying Lizard and today, the team
officially unveiled a special edition livery for the No. 80
and No. 81 Flying Lizard Porsche 911 GT3 RSR race cars

http://cargoogler.blogspot.com/ 17
New Cars 2011
http://cargoogler.blogspot.com/

that will compete in Le Mans. The livery, which was

created by California-based artist Troy Lee, celebrates
the rich and esteemed history of Porsche at Le Mans,
highlighted by the 28 drivers that have won the world-
famous endurance race while driving a Porsche.

Although the design is similar for both cars, they sport

different color schemes - candy metallic orange for the
No. 80 and candy metallic blue for the No. 81 - with the
primary colors providing backdrop for the driver names
and flags that weave throughout the design of the race
car.

The 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR is powered by a 4.0-liter,

six-cylinder boxer engine mated to a six-speed gearbox,
producing an output of 455 horsepower at 7,800 rpm and
a peak of 332 lb/ft of torque.

New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011

New Cars 2011
http://cargoogler.blogspot.com/

The 911 is the most successful model in Porsche’s

history. It started its long history back in 1963 and since
then Porsche has offered five distinct generations: 911
classic, 964 Series, 993 Series, 996 Series, and 997 Series.
Moreover, the sixth one is already under intense
New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011

testings and will make its official debut in 2011 at the

Frankfurt Motor Show.

It may be a little unorthodox for Porsche to be bringing

out a new generation 911 despite the fact they just

http://cargoogler.blogspot.com/ 19
New Cars 2011
http://cargoogler.blogspot.com/

revealed a facelift version, but the requests keep

changing and Porsche must answer the call of duty.
Their latest target is improving both fuel consumption
and CO2 emissions.

The sixth generation 911, or the 998, will be a

completely new vehicle, even though everyone will
recognize it as a 911 model. Shortly after the launch of
the 998 911, Porsche will also be releasing the Turbo,
GT2, and GT3 in 2012.

UPDATE 06/01/2011: According to new details offered

by Car And Driver, the next generation Porsche 911 will
drop the current 6-speed manual gearbox and replace it
with a seven-speed manual that will help to improve
fuel-economy and reduce engine noise. The new gearbox
will be derived from Porsche’s seven-speed dual-clutch
PDK automatic and will deliver the same shifting
experience as the current tranny.

It’s been more than a year since Toyota unveiled the

concept version of the FT-86 Coupe at the 2009 Tokyo
Motor Show. During that year, we’ve heard so many
reports, rumors, and whispers about the car, that we’re
beginning to think that this could very well be the
New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011

second-coming of Toyota’s iconic Celica line.

We already know that the Toyota FT-86 will come with a

Subaru version as a direct result of the collaboration

http://cargoogler.blogspot.com/ 21
New Cars 2011
http://cargoogler.blogspot.com/

between the two Japanese brands. We’ve also received

reports that the FT-86 will come with it’s own factory
modified G Sports version. Then there were reports that
the Toyota version of the FT-86 will be badged as a
Scion.

All these reports have generated major buzz on the

sports coupe and we haven’t even talked about it’s
release date yet - it’s expected to come out in
November of 2011, setting the stage for what promises
to be a very busy holiday season for both Toyota and
Subaru.

Now, the production version of the FT-86 has yet to be

revealed, but the many people that fell in love with the
design of the concept version, will be happy to know
that, according to Toyota, the production version of the
FT-86 will look a whole lot like the concept version with
only a few minor modifications to its aerodynamic
package.

The Toyota FT-86 has been caught testing at the

New Cars 2011 | 6/3/2011

Nurburgring rocking its final bodywork. According to

AutoCar, the car caught testing looks closer to the FT-
86 II concept, confirming previous speculations that the
most recent concept would be "95 per cent" of the final
model.
