Work report for the month of January

“Design, Implementation and Social Acceptability of Controlled Release Fertilizers

from Agri-Fishery Waste Materials”

Alarcon, Paula Riza dJ

Laboratory Aide
In accomplishment of the contract as a laboratory aide for the research project of “Design,

Implementation and Social Acceptability of Controlled Release Fertilizers from Agri-Fishery Waste

Materials” under the project leader Ms. Concepcion P. Ponce, in addition with the 8 hours per week

required work duty in the laboratory from the dates between January 15 to 31 in year 2019. A monthly

report regarding the work performance for 20 hours out of 32 hours in a month.

During the month of January, the research project focused on gathering the samples to be used to

the actual experimental method. Dried shrimp shells were powdered using a blender and sieved to

acquire dust-like shrimp shells and transferring it to a cleaning plastic container for the later use and

proper storage. The powdered shrimp shells were washed and strained using filter paper. In the other

research project, “Humic Acid from Vermicomposts: Extraction, Characterization, and its Encapsulation

with Nutrient Complex Using Alginate” under Mr. Jay O. Martizano in partnership with Ms.

Concepcion P. Ponce, the vermicompost was manually cleaned, removing large debris— leaves, rocks,

insects. The vermicompost was later air-dried and sieved to obtain fine grounds of sample to be used for

the production of the experiment product. Washing laboratory glasswares and materials used in the

laboratory were one of the main jobs; the careful disposal of chemical and sample wastes were

implemented, ensuring that the used laboratory wares were properly cleaned to prevent unknown

possible errors to the data to be gather for the research project.

Research projects are works of precision, little details in the production of the product to be

develop are recorded. Errors are possible to occur whenever the improper use and/or uncleaned

laboratory wares were to be used, in which the laboratory aide is responsible for. To ensure that the

research project completes on time, the laboratory aides were assigned to work on the minor data

sampling and extraction of samples while the research assistants formulate the research itself; this

concludes the report for the month of January.
