What are the possible future and development of travel writing in the Internet age?

What was it like to travel before the internet age? We get flight tickets from the travel agents, who
would book tickets via a hotline they have with the airlines. Without a translator app, we simply carry books
of phrases with us to our target country. Such books are still around today. Without Google maps, we use
printed street directories and bus guides. Such books are still around today.

I would imagine that there are many possibilities open to travel writers these days. You could write for a
website, or a travel web-show, or even keep a journal for yourself. But first, you have to travel. That may be
the biggest hurdle that you have to face. Travel is expensive. More so than simply living at home. What you
want to do is get someone else to pay for it. Someone like an employer or a parent or even a relative. The
current pandemic won’t last forever. When it’s over, people will want to travel again. They will be hungry for
travel writing. So, if you are a good writer and you like to travel, you are in good shape for the future. While
you’re waiting for the pandemic to run its course, hone your writing skills. They will come in handy whatever
you do in the future.

For the writer, they want to narrate their experience of being there, and getting there as well, and maybe
escaping if necessary. What was unique? Different than advertised? Lessons learned? Social media will have
many of those that can be assembled or excerpted for the reader personally. Automation enables logging,
rating, and recommendations. Overall statistics are compiled of trends and tastes. Centuries pass in decades
and those in years. Some of it may be speculative like what it is like off-planet. Entertainment puts together
tense groups looking for survivors. They all digitize as they go so the next audience enjoys augmentation.
