1. What are the challenges encountered by the speaker when delivering a speech?

How did she overcome these challenges?

The challenge Megan Washington encountered when delivering a speech is stuttering.

She was diagnosed with debilitating stutter since she was five years old. It is a speech
disorder in which the flow of speech is disrupted silent pauses or blocks in which the
person who stutters is unable to produce sounds.

To overcome these challenges, Megan Washington develops a loophole method of using

speech where right at the last minute, she changes the word which she knows she will
stutter. Megan also attends a lot of therapy, which is smooth speech technique. It is a
technique where the stutter speaker almost sings everything he/she says. Another way
for her to speak up without stutter is singing. Based on research, it is almost impossible
for stutter to stutter when he/she was singing.

2. Did the talk inspire you? What did you learn from it?

Megan Washington is such an inspiration because even though she has a speech
disorder, it does not stop her to deliver her Ted Talk. It makes me think that if a person
like her with a stutter can talk in front of a lot of people, how about me who does not have
any speech disorder? I still need a lot more courage and practice to public speaking. It
just made me realize that one day too, I could speak in front of everyone like her and to
inspire them with my story.

I learned that not every public speaker is already great in their first time to speak in front
of a huge audience. Everyone comes in the phase where it takes a lot of courage and
confident to speak up. It does not matter if you are not a great public speaker, it takes a
process to do so. Always practices, watch some other Ted Talks about being confident
and in the end of the day, we can also become a great public speaker.
