Good Governance Day - 25 December.

Good Governance Day is observed annually on December 25th, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister
Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Good Governance Day was established in 2014 to honor Mr Vajpayee by fostering
awareness among the people of accountability in government. On December 23, 2014, Mr Vajpayee, and Pandit
Madan Mohan Malaviya (posthumously) were announced as recipients of the Bharat Ratna, India's highest
civilian award. Following the announcement, the Modi government announced that the birth anniversary of the
former Prime Minister would be henceforth commemorated annually in India as Good Governance Day.
Objectives of Good Governance Day was To make people aware about the government commitment for
providing a transparent and accountable administration in the country.

Saba Karim appointed BCCI General Manager, Cricket Operations.

The former Indian cricketer and commentator Saba Karim was appointed as the General Manager, Cricket
Operations by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The board confirmed that Saba Karim will take
over in this new role from January 1, 2018. The General Manager’s post had been left vacant after the
resignation of MV Sridhar over the issue of conflict of interest. Saba Karim’s responsibilities in this new role
will include budgeting and compliance of match playing regulations. “Some of the major responsibilities of
Karim include giving strategic direction to the cricket department, implementing the operational plans,
budgeting, determining and monitoring the compliance of match playing regulations, standards of venues,
administration of Domestic Program

Mamang Dai and Ramesh Kuntal Megh Win Sahitya Akademi Award 2017.

Authors Mamang Dai and Ramesh Kuntal Megh have won this year's Sahitya Akademi award for their work.
The Black Hill, a novel, and Vishw Mithak Sarit Sagar, a literary criticism, in English and Hindi respectively.
The Sahitya Akademi announced its annual Sahitya Akademi Awards 2017 in 24 languages. Seven novels, five
collections each of poetry and short stories, five works of literary criticism, a play and a book of essays have
won the awards. The award in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper-plaque, a shawl and a cheque
of Rs 1 lakh will be presented to the authors at a special function to be held on February 12, 2018.

Birmingham to host Commonwealth Games in 2022.

The central English city of Birmingham will host the Commonwealth Games in 2022. The 2022 Commonwealth
Games were originally given to Durban in 2015, but the South African city was stripped of the event this year
because of financial difficulties. The multisports event, involving countries associated with the former British
empire, was last in Britain in 2014 when it was held in Glasgow. Before that, Manchester hosted in 2002. Gold
Coast, Australia, will host the next Commonwealth Games in 2018.

Ola acquires FoodPanda India business, to further invest $200 million.

Ride-hailing player Ola is making an entry into the food delivery space again, this time by acquiring Foodpanda
India from Germany based Delivery Hero Group. While the companies did not disclose the details of the deal
size, sources have pegged the stock-based acquisition at under $50 million. The move will also see Ola invest
another $200 million, as it takes on rival UberEats and incumbents like Zomato and Swiggy.According to
analysts, Ola has acquired the third largest player in the food delivery business in India and is focussed on
broadening its range of services, including the food delivery segment, after Ola Cafe failed to take off in 2015.
Saurabh Kochhar, former CEO of Foodpanda India has left the company and Pranay Jivrajka, founding partner
at Ola has been appointed as the interim CEO of Foodpanda and will work with the existing leadership team at
the company.

Justice UD Salvi Appointed Officiating Chief of National Green Tribunal.

The union government appointed Justice U D Salvi as officiating chairperson of the National Green Tribunal
(NGT) following the superannuation of Justice Swatanter Kumar.
