2: ASSIGNMENT: Product Design Recommendation

Recommendations/suggestions with advantages & disadvantages

In our honest view, the iPhone 13 Pro is far too good to be changed. On the other hand,
despite its beauty and advancement, there are still aspects of the product that consumers wish
were changed. And, of course, the most important driver for a successful product design is client
feedback.

1. Rounded edge

In the beginning, the iPhone 13 is truly the best; you will be amazed by its technological
breakthroughs, particularly in the camera and battery. However, the longer you use it, the more
you get uncomfortable with the size, form, and weight.

The iPhone 13 Pro is a bit heavier than other iPhones because of its battery. The iPhone
13 features a blocky design with sharp edges, making it uncomfortable to use. Even if you have
large hands, the hefty iPhone 13 Pro Max (weighing 8.5 ounces) is particularly bad. However,
numerous Android phones have an ergonomic edge over the iPhone 13. Even with their big
casings, phones like the Pixel 6 Pro and OnePlus 9 Pro feel a lot more pleasant to carry. How do
they manage to do this (Palmer, 2021). People say that apples don’t usually listen to their
recommendations. “The rare times that Apple does listen, the changes can take years to come to
fruition (like with the 2021 MacBook Pros, which were five years in the making).” Palmer says.

As a result, we believe Apple should pay attention to their users and what they consider
to be more comfortable. Rounded edges are desirable. Why make it even more difficult to use a
smartphone that is already very large? Some Android phone manufacturers have worked it out,
and it's past time for Apple to catch up.

Advantages

● Comfortability is a very important factor for customer’s satisfaction of product.

The more comfortable they are, the more they will enjoy it.
● Customers are more inclined to promote your product to others if they enjoyed it.

Disadvantage

● It might take longer for manufacturers to figure out the strategy.

2. In-Screen Fingerprint Reader

Face ID works great most of the time, but it would be nice to have the option of using
your fingerprint to unlock your device as well. Face ID can’t accurately identify you while
wearing a face mask, and this is essential since we are still in the pandemic phase. Many Android
phones, such as those from Samsung, have fingerprint readers built into their screens.

Advantages:
● It aids in protecting the phone against security theft, which is a growing concern
these days. Fingerprints, unlike passwords, cannot be thieved, twigged, or lost,
making them highly effective and dependable.
● Biometric systems based on fingerprint sensors are already being used in building
entry systems to keep track of attendance records.

Disadvantage:
● Face ID only allows one person to access an unlocked iPhone, whereas Touch ID
enables up to five fingerprints-so more than one person could potentially have
access to the same device. Every person you give access to reduces the iPhone’s
privacy and security dramatically.

3. Sunproof body

When exposed to sunlight, the iPhone 13 pro, like other smartphones, tends to overheat.
This reduces the brightness of the screen by 50%. The iPhone 13 pro has been commended for its
better video quality, and videographers can now film their shots outside using only their phone.
In addition, the iPhone 13 pro features Super Retina XDR displays with a resolution of 2532 x
1170 pixels, which are made with OLED technology. This brightens the screen display even
when it's in direct sunlight, encouraging filmmakers and photographers to use it for outdoor
shoots. However, the risk of overheating remains a stumbling block. As a result, we urge that the
next iPhone model have a sunproof body. For all smartphone manufacturers and consumers, this
will be the first time.

Advantages:
● Customers can leverage the power features available on the iPhone 13 pro.
● Will ensure one's safety from the danger of overheating
● This will extend the battery's lifespan by protecting it from thermal damage.

Disadvantage:
● Increase the cost for manufacturing
4. 120hz Refresh Rate

120Hz displays have become all the rage over the last few years. They allow for
smoother scrolling, more responsive games, and are now a staple on most flagship
Android devices. Unfortunately, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini do not have a 120Hz
refresh rate of any kind. Instead, they're stuck with the traditional 60Hz speed that we've
had for years.

Advantages:
● Smoother scrolling with less motion blur and a smoother look and feel.
● Gamers can enjoy their high-end games.
● Higher refresh rates provide a cushion to the transition between one frame to next.
● Helps your brain see the image clearer.

Disadvantage:
● Higher refresh rates reduces battery life.

5. Weight Decrease

Apple's iPhone 13 comes in at 6.14 oz. (174g) and this is due to the material that
Apple used for their product. Even though the iPhone 13 is thinner, most of the
consumers noticed the weight increase especially when they carry them in their pockets
and bags. A decrease in weight can be an effective suggestion especially people
nowadays like to carry small and lightweight things.

Advantage:
● Convenient to carry anywhere.

Disadvantage:
● There will be a reduction in the material used.
