1. (a) Name three alkali metals which forms Dobereiner’s triad? (2)
(b) Which amongst these F-, Cl-, Br-, and I- do not fit in the Dobereiner’s triad?
2. An atom ‘Y’ has a total of 3 shells, with 6 electrons in its valence shell. (2)
(i) What will be the atomic no of this element?
(ii) In which period will you find this element?
3. What are inherited and acquired traits? (2)
4. Differentiate between Genotype and Phenotype? (2)
5. Mendel selected garden pea plants due to its advantage over other plants.
Write any two selection criteria for selecting garden pea plant. (2)
OR

experiments.
6. List the properties of magnetic field lines. (2)
OR
State and explain Right Hand Thumb Rule.
7. How do Mendel’s experiments show that traits may be dominant or recessive? (2)
OR
A tall and a short plant are crossed and tall F1 Progeny was obtained. When F1
generation plants were self-pollinated, both tall and dwarf plants were obtained. Explain
the genotype and phenotype of this monohybrid cross?
SECTION – B
8. The position of 3 elements A, B and C in the periodic Table is shown below - (3)
Group 16 Group 17
---- ----
---- A
----- ----
B C
(a) State whether ‘A’ is a metal or a non-metal?
(b) State whether ‘C’ is more reactive or less reactive than ‘A’?
(c) Will ‘C’ be larger or smaller in size than ‘B’?
9. Define Newland’s law of Octaves. What were the limitations of Newland’s law of
Octaves? (3)
OR
Define Mendeleev’s Periodic Law. What were the limitations of Mendeleev’s
Periodic Table?
10. How is the sex of the child determined in human beings? Explain with the help of a
diagram? (3)
11. (a) What is the principle of an electric motor? (3)
(b) Mention the role of the split ring in an electric motor?
(c) State and explain the rule that gives the direction of motion of the force on a
current carrying conductor.
12. (a) What is a solenoid? (3)
(b) Draw the magnetic field lines due to a solenoid.
(c) State one use of solenoid.
OR
Describe an activity to determine the pattern of magnetic field around a straight
conductor carrying current with the help of a diagram.

13. How does the creation of variations in a species ensure survival? Explain with an
example. (3)
SECTION – C
This section has two Case-based questions (14 and 15). Each case is followed by 03 sub-
questions (a, b, and c). Parts a and b are compulsory. However, an internal choice has
been provided in part c.

14. To study the pattern of inheritance, Mendel crossed pea plants with contrasting
characters and observed that one of the parental forms of trait was always absent in F1
generation but reappeared unchanged in F2 generation.
(a) Workout a cross up to F2 generation between two pure breed pea plants one bearing
violet flowers (VV) and the other bearing white flowers (vv) (1)
(b) Name the type of cross? (1)
(c) State the different laws that can be derived from such a cross. (2)
OR
Plants with pure round yellow seeds is crossed with pants having wrinkled green seeds.
All F1 progenies were with round and yellow seeds. Workout the F2 progeny to find out
the ratio of plants which have wrinkled yellow and round green seeds?

15. Two coils C1 and C2 are wrapped around a non-conducting cylinder: Coil C1 is
connected to a battery and key and C2 with galvanometer G . On pressing the key (K),
current starts flowing in the coil C1.

What is observed in the Galvanometer?

(i) When key K is (a) closed and (b) opened? (1)
(ii) When the current is passed continuously through coil C1? (1)
(iii) Write the reasons for the above observations. (2)
OR
Name and state the phenomenon responsible for the above observations.
