Conventional Leads/ summary leads

A summary lead is the most common and traditional lead in journalism. It is meant to give a


quick summary in as few words as possible and is usually one sentence. It contains most of the
5Ws (who, what, when, where, why) and the H (how). This lead focuses on just one or two
elements of a summary lead

Grammatical Beginning Lead There are times when the lead is introduced by a kind


of grammatical form which is usually a phrase or a clause used to emphasize a feature. Here,
the important W's are found in the main clause, not in the introductory or subordinate clause
which is just a modifying feature
