Learning An information block 'Learning Objective' is stated at the beginning of

Objectives each chapter l module before the table of sections in this module. It
summarizes the main points dealt with in the module that follows. So you
know at the start what to concentrate on when working through the
contents of the module. You will find it easier to learn the contents of a
module if you keep these objectives in mind as you work through it.

Sections The sections continue the modular structure on the next level. At the
beginning of each section, there is an information block, in most cases
'Introduction' or 'Summary', to give a short overview of the sections
contents. This block can be used to find out whether the information in
the section is of interest to the reader l user.

Information Within the sections, the information is divided into handy information
Blocks blocks. Each information block has a block title in the left margin,
indicating what the information block is about and corresponding more or
less to what you would want to highlight with a marker as key-word for
the information block.

Read the block titles again after working through a module for the first
time. Then remember their advantages for a quick revision!

The Field What you want is to learn as much as you can about a product that is
Manual new to you as quickly and easily as possible. The field manual helps you
to use new field knowledge with confidence. It covers the areas
installation, commissioning, diagnostics and maintenance.

So get used to the checklists, presentations and notes in the field

manual from the start.

Using the Field At the end of your training - with or without a course - you should be able
Manual to find everything you need in the field manual.

The course, and the course manual, give you all the basic background
information you need to do a better job than before. But first you have to
learn how to use the field manual.

So it's up to you to get the most out of the field manual by

Personal notes - to make the manual complete in every respect

Asking questions - asking questions in the course to improve and
verify your own knowledge of the field manual.

Section I 2 HOWto Use this Manual

Introduction Faced with a new product, you want Q

1. to get to the heart of the new subject-matter quickly

2. an easy-to-use reference manual to speed up your work

TA Ebikon has produced a course manual and a field manual to meet

these needs. The course manual is used in the course and as an aid to
self-study. The field manual is designed as a direct working tool for
installation, commissioning, diagnostics and maintenance.

Moreover, the complete product documentation is available on the

Schindler lntranet to obtain comprehensive know-how about the product.

The Course The course manual helps make learning easy. It is designed as an
Manual integral part of the course but can also be used for self-study if
necessary.

To make the most of the manual layout, observe

the modular structure

learning objectives
sections within a module
information blocks within sections

Modules The course manual is divided into 'modules'. These often represent
useful learning packages.

The modules follow a flexible pattern according to the complexity of the

contents. In shorter modules, the emphasis is directly on the information
to be conveyed. Longer modules feature the following pattern:

1. Awareness - description of the problem or situation

2. Remembering - references to what you have learned earlier or
what you already know
3. New subject-matter - presentation of the new subject-matter
4. Applications - exercises to fix the new material in your mind, with
references to practical exercises
5. Personal progress check - self-check possibilities

of an elevator in standard operation mode to meet the elementary
requirements of specific vertical transportation situations. It is
characterized by the way the control registers and serves hall calls.

Control Types

Traffic Modes In a building, there may be predefined patterns of traffic flow between
certain floors (traffic patterns) at certain times of day, such as to andlor
from the main stop. Depending on the control type, the group control is
able to adapt to the different traffic situations. This results in maximum
transport capacity and optimum waiting times for every traffic situation.

For special traffic situations, there are specific traffic modes available as
control type extensions

to optimize the control type characteristics

and to adapt the control behavior to the actual traffic.

The table below indicates which traffic modes are supported by each of
the control types:

Schematic The control interacts with many other components and elevator
35
Overview subsystems. A schematic overview of the general functional blocks in
the control of an elevator system can be seen in the figure below:

Schematic Overview

K604009 Section 2-1-5: System Overview - Product Description - Functional Description

Traffic Control Traffic control handles the user interface for

input (landing and car calls)

output (signalization).

It includes the traffic algorithm for call dispatch both for individual
elevators and for elevator groups. In a group, the elevator traffic is
optimized by allocating individual elevators to calls using a control
specific optimization algorithm (traffic mode).

Travel Control Travel control gives the reference values for the travel and controls
whether the actual values correspond to the reference values. It is
responsible for control of

the car position

the car movement, i.e. of
o acceleration
o constant speed
o slowdown
the brake.

Releveling in the door zone and door zone bridging are monitored via the
shaft information device SI-V.

Furthermore it is monitoring the safety circuit. Only if the safety circuit

is ok, the travel may start. During movement, any safety relevant event
must immediately result in a controlled stop of the car.
In former versions of the control, the separate IVXVF PCB was
responsible for car speed, acceleration and slowdown. In Miconic
TX-GC / Miconic 10-GC, these functions have been integrated into the
elevator control system.
P
P- -

Door Control Door control monitors and controls all door relevant activities, and is
responsible for immediate response to actuation of the door reversing
devices.

Peripherals Major peripheral components which are interfaced by the elevator

control are:

landing l10
car 110
door I10 and reversing
optional load measurement
brake, motor and related devices
safety circuit
shaft information
motor control (frequency converter) which autonomously controls
the drive unit.

Miconic TX-GC The difference between Miconic TX-GC and Miconic 10-GC are the
and Miconic different control types. Whereas Miconic TX-GC is based on
10-GC conventional traffic modes and control algorithm, Miconic 10-GC is the
implementation of the destination call traffic mode. This new traffic mode
also requires different operating elements, the Z-Line Fixtures (see
document K 604023). For a description of control types and traffic
modes, see section 'Control Types and Traffic Modes'. For a detailed
description of destination call, see 'Appendix A - Miconic 10 Destination
Call' in document K 604003.

Introduction This section contains information on the product philosophy and c.

special features of the control. B
S

Product Miconic TX-GC and 10-GC are based on a modular and configurable
5E
v,
Philosophy control system, designed for mid-range and high range applications.
Each module or sub-system covers a clearly defined control
function. The modules communicate via direct PCB connections or
via serial bus systems (lift bus, group bus).

The control is designed for cost effective application in the new

installation market. This is achieved by using the Global Control (GC)
Platform as design guideline, which will be the base for future
standardization and modularization of control systems in all application
ranges. LON (Local Operating Network) is used as generic physical
bus system for most elevator networks, functions and components,
resulting in standardization, simplification and cost reduction. The
Global Control concept includes:

A view of the elevator as a distributed network, connected by

logical/physical bus systems:
o LON lift and group bus for transmission of lift and group
specific I 10 to and from the landing, the car, the hoistway
and the machine room
o RS-485 group bus for group control communication and
for the interface to the building bus gateway (Lobbyvision), to
the AITP Traffic Processor and to the Miconic 10 Overlay
Reduction of wiring in the control cabinet by implementing the
specific elevator control functions on a set of plug and play PCB
modules:
o Application Specific Interface Board (ASIB) with base
functionality and as backplane for other GC boards for
extended functionality
o Extension Boards (EB) implementing additional
functionality (e.g. safety circuit, brake module)
o Generic boards (e.g. processor and I10 boards)
o Further reduction of cabling costs by 'Wiring on PCB' and
usage of prefabricated cables (also reduces possible
cabling errors).
Usage of new, high quality electric and electronic components,
e.g. switching power supplies.

Especially for Miconic 10-GC, the rnodularity of the system results in

an enormous reduction of components, as the algorithm is running on
the Miconic TX-GC hardware instead on a separate PC as for the

Miconic 10 OVERLAY. This integrated control system with a Miconic TX-
GC base control and Miconic 10 algorithm is called Miconic 10-GC.

Special The control offers the following special features:

Features
Additional support of Schindlers new door family Varidor and
of third party doors (Wittur ACIDC and Fermator) as standard
Power supply with broader voltage range, supporting 4 and 5
wire mains
Modular safety circuit with TUV certificate, also designed for
large travel heights (up to 500 m)
Universal brake module optimizes brake control
Universal and user friendly OKR with wiring on ICE PCB
Ground fault protection for additional safety

Details on GC10360 PC6

PCB In the philosophy of the Global Control Platform, the GC10360 is a

Description Generic CPU and Input Output Board, running with a Motorola MC68360
CPU. It serves as the CPU card for the elevator control, offering the
following functionalities:

Feature Description

I
The Motorola 68360 CPU running at 25 MHz
Central Processing with 4 MB RAM is running software tasks which
Unit
were previously performed on multiple PCBs.
2 MB of Flash EPROM are holding

the application software for the GC10360

Application
PCB
software and
the masters of the LON application
service tables
software for all types of LON nodes
the service tables PCT and SCT.

One of the GC10360 applications is to serve as

the LON bus master, i.e. to administrate LON
nodes and to coordinate LON 110. This includes
LON bus master distribution of the correct LON application
software from the Flash EPROM to LON nodes
with invalid software status (e.g. after PCB
exchange or software upgrade).
Via download over the special RS-232 interface
on this PCB, the application software in the
Flash EPROM both for the GC10360 PC6 itself
and the masters for the various types of LON
nodes can be upgraded.
The GC10360 CPU provides the necessary 110
Communication channels for communication via EBLON and
EBCOM.

All outputs are short-circuit protected!

Logical Signal I10 conversion of the physical input and output to or from the software is
Names done by a mapping via signal names. For inverting the polarity of
SIGNAL, it can be inverted logically in the PCT to N-SIGNAL using the
prefix 'N-'.

Signal Prefixes For inputs, the default status (active-high) does not require a prefix for
the signal name. The designation for inputs which are active-low is 0
preceded by an IN-'. ti

preceded by an 'P-'.

Examples:
VST-0: output, active low

Special cases In addition to the test procedure below, the following checks can be
made for two special cases:

The car is at the shaft end or on the buffer. In this case use the
SMLCD to check:
o load value and load measurement system
o position lost
o position tacho fault
o KB and drive feedback.
The car is in the safety gear. In this case check:
o safety gear mechanics (with / without load) or safety gear for
parts which are not fixed
o if overspeed governor is engaged
o for wrong nominal speed (using SMLCD).

SMLCD: 09 KBFault
CADI: KB-Fault
The brake contacts KB or K61 do not switch properly. a) Defective brake contacts
Travel Control expects both KB and KBI information. Check the adjustment of the contacts.
In case of only one KB contact, check that there is a
short on the connector of the PCB.
With gearless drives, check that the brake contacts
work properly, and that the brake power supply is ok;
when the brake opens, SB is operated first ( full power
supply to the brake) and just afterwards SGRB is
operated thus reducing the voltage to the brake. The
operation of SGRB is independent of the KB and KB1
status. b) Mechanical brake problem

best adjustment is to allow a gap of 1 mm between the
contact and actuating element when the brake is
closed.

Miconic 70-GC Multiplex Configuration

LON Bus Due to the free topology of the LON bus, a correct termination of the bus
at both e n d s of each segment is very important. The LON bus
termination rules are:

Termination for the LON lift bus (using BAFL#) is required on the
last lift backplane of each elevator, i.e. on BPL1, and on the ICE
PC6 in the last OKR on each car.
Termination for the LON group bus (using BAFG) is required on
the the first group backplane, i.e. on BPL2, of the first and last
elevator in the group.
Termination of the LON bus (lift bus for simplex 1group bus for
multiplex) is required for all terminal (sub)risers with Miconic 10 Z-
Line Terminals. Each (sub)riser is an individual LON bus segment
and terminated by the internal BAF on the LREP PCB on one side,
and by a BAF bus termination on the other side.
The vendor recommends a 105 l2 bus termination at both ends.

K604007 Section 3-9: Diagnostics Procedure - Bus Termination
I
VCOM Bus VCOM termination is done according to the following rules:

Termination is done using the internal BAG on the EBCOM68

PCB for the first and last elevator in the group.
A GW PCB (gateway) is always attached to the VCOM group bus

. of the first elevator. It is required for connection to Lobbyvision.

A simplex elevator with a GW PCB requires one separate BAG
as external bus terminator, mounted in the option area of the
control cabinet AS. C3
VCOM requires a 120 Q bus termination at both ends. 8

PCBs on ASlLOG PC6 PCB (LONDAG) on BPL PCB

Before any work on the installation wiring or on electric

components, make sure that JH, JTHS, JHL, and JHG are in OFF
position, and unplug NSG battery!
By switching off JHG, the group functions of all elevators in the group are
switched off!
The PCBs may be damaged by static electricity when touched on the
surface - please handle them on the edges only and store them in a
plastic bag for electrostatic sensible devices. Discharge yourself!

Every new LON PCB comes only with a basic communication software.
During the next startup, the LON application software will be downloaded
from the master on the GC10360 PCB, where the base software and the
LON application software are located.

If a GC10360 PCB is exchanged, the old software and parameters (PCT

and SCT) are transferred by using the Flash EPROMs from the old PCB.
Insert each EPROM at the same position as on the old PCB. In case that
the old EPROMs cannot be used, document the status of all counters in
the elevator log as the new software will start from 0.

Repair Software Download

Introduction This section contains information on downloading software for all PCBs 0
in the control, connected via LON bus either direct (plugged into f
backplane PCB) or indirect (connection via bus).
-
3.-
Overview The tool for software download is integrated in the CAD1 program group
X
(CAD1 2.7 or higher), and the download is a two step process:

in a first step, the GC10360 is updated with the new target software
version which also contains the new application software for all
other nodes and node types in the LON network.
in the second step, in fact every time the control is restarted, the
LON manager in the target software checks all nodes in the
network and updates them with new versions, if necessary.

The software download does not affect the data area, i.e. PCT and SCT.

Prerequisites The following prerequisites must be fulfilled before downloading of

software can start:

The download software must be available on a notebook PC (file

with the extension ".DLDM).
The notebook must be connected to the appropriate location on
the GC10360 PC6 (not on ASILOG as for CAD1 operation):

Connection for Software Do wnload

K604009 Section 9-1-4: Maintenance - Maintenance AS - Repair - Software Download

Procedure The following table gives an overview of the software download process,
including recommissioning:

Action
Switch JRH to "RECALL" in order to prevent the system from
being operative during the software download.
Start the software download tool on the notebook.
Select the data file with the new software version for download
on the notebook (file extension .DLD).
Use the Connect command of the download tool to connect to
the target (GC10360). The download tool is now ready to set up
a connection to the GC10360.
Reset the control (Reset button on GC10360). Now the
GC10360 will connect to the download tool.
Use the Download Loader command of the download tool to
boot the GC10360 with this tool instead of the normal
application software.
After the bootstrap loader is downloaded, the control is ready to
receive data. This is done by using the Download Application
command of the download tool. The application will first be
downloaded to RAM.
Now use the Programming command of the download tool to
write the new application code to the flash EPROM. After
completion of this download process, the new software for the
master (GC10360) and for all other nodes and node types is
available on the master (during this process, do not interrupt
program execution or interact with the GC10360 in any way!)

If an error occurs during this process, the application code is

now incomplete and

the whole procedure will have to be repeated starting at

step 4
the 4 Flash EPROMs on the GC10360 with the application
code must be exchanged

Use the Reset command of thkdownload tool to perform a

GC10360 reset. The control will restart with the new software,
and the master will check all LON nodes for the correct
software version. In case new software versions have been
downloaded, the master will redistribute this software to the
respective targets using an internal programming mechanism
via LON bus. Please observe:

the SMLCD menu Status - LON SW-Dwnload indicates

the status 'Software Download'
this process may take up to one hour or more for systems
where many LON nodes must be updated.

,J 155420E-110499 Page 2 of 3
K604009 Section 9-1-4: Maintenance - Maintenance AS - Repair - Software Download
l
Exit the software download tool on the notebook.
Check on SMLCD if download process has been finished. An
active software download is indicated by a blinking ?
' h' sign on
the SMLCD display (top right). The SMLCD menu Status - LON
SW-Dwnload indicates the software download status in detail.
Here the display shows the node, which is actually downloaded,
or otherwise the statement 'No Download' if the download is
finished.

Now switch JRH back to "NORMAL".

Software Do wnload

Please use the help utility of the software download tool illustrated with
screen captures with the instructions on how to use the program. It
includes a detailed description of the download process.
