In the first step, an iodide solution is added to the analyte under acidic conditions in the presence

of molybdate catalyst. Na2S2O8 oxidizes iodide to iodine per the following reaction:
Na2S2O8 + 2 KI + 2 H2SO4 → I2 + 2 KHSO4 + 2 NaHSO4 (1)

The iodine formed (related to the initial amount of Peroxide by 1:1 stochiometry) is then titrated
with a thiosulfate solution of known concentration.
I2 + 2 Na2S2O3 → Na2S4O6 + 2 NaI                                                                                      (2)

Early in the titration, the presence of iodine is indicated by a characteristic yellow-brown color of
the solution.

1 mole of I2 equal to 2 mole of Na2S2O3

1 mole of I2 equal to 1 mole of Na2S2O8

So, 1 mole of Na2S2O8 equal to 2 mole of Na2S2O8

1
Mole Na2S2O8 = mole Na2S2O3
2
*Mole = Molaritas x Volume

V Na2 S 2 O3 .5 H 2 O×M Na2 S 2 O3 .5 H 2 O

Mole Na2S2O3 = 2
