1. Cite and issue or a situation in school, workplace, society in which unethical

communication threatens the well being of individuals.
When people communicate to one another, parties involved would always
expect a benefit from any conversation they are in. It could be simply about
gaining information, establishing identity, building a personal relationship such as
affection and inclusion, and forming a medium of understanding. But, these are
just the primary intentions or default reasons of communication which can
possibly be affected by how people act their ways while at it.
In school, communication between teachers, students, administration, and
staff is primarily a way of establishing interpersonal needs to gain needed
information from both parties. It is a medium of assessment to determine each
other’s capabilities and understanding in a certain field. But, in some instances,
there are teachers who abuse their superiority to us, students. As a student, I am
fully aware about the boundaries between us and the teachers but being them,
as the superior, it does not mean that they could make use of that to talk to
students in an unethical manner. I know a certain teacher who uses her position
as a teacher to humiliate us students without even giving us the chance to
explain or even simply listen to us. It was said that an ethical communication is
that both parties must strive to understand and respect communicators before
evaluation. But with that teacher’s case, she did not give us any chance to prove
what we were saying, instead, she just scolded us for insisting our side, and it’s
because she is our teacher; she is the superior. We were polite to her but she
didn’t seem to bother show us some respect too. If teachers like her would
continue such way of dealing with students, people might think that as long as
you have the position or power over someone else, it would give you the right to
underestimate other’s capabilities and willingness to learn by using such hurtful
words. She has always done that to us, and whenever it’s our class session with
her subject, our eagerness to learn is somehow fading because it was embarked
in our minds that she will never listen to us and understand us because she has
always reminded as that we’re just merely students. It’s a big problem to our well-
being because it might affect our self-esteem and eagerness as beginners who
only wants to learn from our teachers. In the workplace, it is expected that the
subordinates must follow the rules and regulations of their heads and leaders. An
ethical communication in the workplace indicates that those leaders must
advocate and promote access to communication resources and opportunities as
necessary to fulfill human potential and contribute to them or to the society as
well. But if the bosses in companies treat their employees like machines who
only works when told to, the employees might lose the sense of belongingness in
their work and soon leave the company. Employees are the companies’ assets,
therefore, they must be treated and considered in the right and mannered way.
They must have the right to give feedback and suggestions that could help the
company in making decisions. If not, they’ll soon realize that they are
inconsequential which might affect their performance. In the society, people often
encounter miscommunication mostly when it comes to government issues. There
are some unethical ways that people do nowadays when exercising their
freedom of expression. It could be because they want to seek answers and
express opinions which could still be done in an ethical manner. But, it seems
like people does not care about proper ways as long as they express their
message which only causes more conflicts on the oppositions. It might not have
and effect instantly in the society, but in the long run, if people would still
continue such things and would not be open for proper communication, it will just
be and endless and meaningless protest and would not cause any good to the
society. Freedom of expression is good but once abused and imbalanced, it
could go against the main purpose of it which is to protect general welfare and
public morality. There must be limitations especially in using offensive language
that could offend any groups of the society.
