As in most communities, a portion of


students in the St. Charles School District
experiences large gaps in equality regarding
outside resources families can access. This
gap is due to obstacles created by lack of
privilege.

While families with resources can assure that


their children receive extracurricular support
and academic "boosts" outside of school;
families with less privilege cannot.

The gap in learning continues to widen; in


addition, the COVID-19 pandemic continues
to amplify the need for remote learning-
which has already magnified this gap.

situation, or family circumstances. All
students have a set of advantages and/or
obstacles created by whatever
opportunities they may or may not have
access to.

While these advantages and obstacles


have nothing to do with intelligence
and natural capabilities, they can
impact outcome, success, and overall
academic achievement.

and/or academic supports required to
provide equal learning opportunities
for their students so we can work

With a referral from a D303 staff


member, any family in the district can
apply for funding from STC L.E.A.R.N.

extracurricular academic resources
they feel their child may need.
