curricula for the global competitiveness of Filipino graduates. Meaning to say, the main

objective of K to 12 is to provide competitive qualities on every Filipino to make them

globally ready. To make them armed with life-long skills and knowledge so that they can

keep up or meet the demands of the evolving society.

The philosophies of education that helped in shaping the K to 12 are

Constructivism, Progressivism, and Reconstructionism. As defined, constructivism says

that people construct their own understanding and knowledge of the world through

experiencing things and reflecting on those experiences. It is a learning approach using

the basic knowledge to acquire a more complex understanding. One of the standards and

principles in developing the enhanced basic education curriculum that DepEd must

adhere is that” The curriculum shall use pedagogical approaches that are constructivist,

inquiry-based, reflective, collaborative and integrative”. Furthermore, the constructivism

uses the spiral progression and since the K to 12 curriculum is in spiral approach also,

students go from one school year level to the next, the learning progress is interrelated.

As years succeed, the level of complexity of the context increases. Learners would

continually reflect on their experiences while acquiring the necessary abilities and skills

to achieve this type of learning.

Another is the progressivism; it says that education should focus on the whole

child rather than on the content or the teacher. It stresses that students should test

ideas by active experimentation. Since the K to 12 curriculum aims that it should be

learner-centered and must nurture the necessary competencies by actively

implementing and employing it in the real world, actively testing ideas or concepts

learned. The learner is a critical thinker and problem solver who derives meaning from

his or her physical and cultural experiences. It is active not passive. Curriculum

content is derived from student interests and questions.

Lastly is the reconstructionism, a philosophy emphasizing the resolution of social

issues and the pursuit of a better society and global democracy. It concentrates on a

curriculum that emphasizes social reform as the goal of education. The curriculum

emphasizes on student involvement and taking social act on real-world issues.

2. Read RA 8980, An Act Promulgating a Comprehensive Policy and National

System for Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD). On which

Philosophies of Education is ECCD anchored? Explain why.

ECCD encourages the children's rights to survival, development, and particular

protection while fully acknowledging the nature of childhood and its unique necessities,

and to assist parents in their duties as main providers and first teachers for their

children.

I think the philosophy of education that ECCD anchored with is progressivism.

Children must learn in a structured environment. Allowing children to participate in

things at their own pace may result in disarray. Believing that people learn best from

what they perceive most relevant to their life, progressivists base their curricula on the

needs, experiences, interests, and talents of students.

3. With the sample philosophy of education presented in the module, formulate

your own philosophy of education.

I believe that every student

 Has the power to grow and progress inside them

 may learn more quickly and in different ways than others, but everyone

can learn and should be treated with dignity

 regardless of specific needs, ought to receive the best education possible

and it’s my role as a teacher to build on their gifts and establish an

environment that promotes optimum learning while meeting the particular

needs of each one

 must learn in an environment where they feel comfortable and sheltered

 should learn from each other and learn how to work things out together

 should also learn to apply the concept at deeper levels of thought. As their

guide, I will do everything in my power to stimulate their interest in

learning.
