Task 2: Design a three-period lesson to teach on of the following:
(d) an area of pronunciation

Period 1 (Naming) This is…


Start the presentation with 3 words flashcards with consonant (letter) sound /b/ as in “bun,
boy and a box”.
First, invite the child to take a mat and sit with teacher on the floor. Teacher starts the
presentation by saying: “Peter, I am going to teach you the sound of letter ‘b’ today. We are
going to learn the pronunciation of letter ‘b’.
Next, place the bun flashcard on the mat in front of the child. Tell the child “Peter, this is a
bun (bbb …bun). Can you say bbb…bun?” Let the child pronounce “bbb …bun”. Take the
bun flashcard and keep it aside.
Now, place the boy flashcard on the mat and tell the child “Peter, this is a boy (bbb…boy).
Can you say bbb….boy?” Let the child pronounce “bbb….boy”. Take the boy flashcard and
keep it aside.
Now put the box flashcard on the mat and tell the child “Peter, this is a box (bbb…box). Can
you say bbb…. box?” Let the child pronounce “bbb…box”. Take the box flash card and keep
it aside.

Period 2 (Recognition) show me…


After completing the Period 1, teacher will proceed to Period 2.
Place the box, boy and bun flashcard in front of the child again. Teacher asks the last word
learnt from Period 1 which will stays fresh in the child’s memory. Now, asks the child “Peter,
can you show me the box and pronounce the sound?” Let the child show the box and
pronounce the consonant sound “b”. You can give the child different instructions by asking:
“Peter, show me the picture of box and pronounce the sound.”
“Peter, can point to the picture of bun and pronounce the sound.”
“Peter, pass me the picture of boy and pronounce the sound.”
Continue and repeat with the three words that you have introduced in Period 1. If the child is
unable to pronounce the sound, return to Period1.
Period 3 (Recall) what is this…
In this period, teacher places the 3 words flashcards (boy, bun, box) on a mat again. Teachers
starts with the last word learnt from Period 2 which will stays fresh in the child’s memory.
Now, teacher can ask:
“Peter, what is this?” by pointing on the boy picture flashcard. Wait and let your child to tell
the answer.
Teacher can shuffle and repeat with all the 3 words flashcards (boy, bun and box).
By ending the class, teacher can say “Today we have learnt the pronunciation of letter ‘b’.
Let see if you remember. Teacher points to each of word card and let the child to pronounce
and tell the name. last, let the child to keep the materials together with you.
