Conclusions and Recommendations

Conclusions

Based on the findings of the study, the researchers conclude the following:

1. The fact that the students perceive the need to undergo counseling when they are being

troubled for a long period of time, experiencing stress, anxiety, difficulty and/or depression, or

when their well-being is already being affected shows that they see counseling as a last resort

when they cannot handle things on their own anymore. Coupled with the fact that they have

different perceptions on the extent of problems disclosed during guidance and counselling

sessions indicate intimidation and trust issues.

2. The data of 22 students who responded that they are not sure whether or not counselling has

helped them and believe that it did not help them is alarming since only 21 responded that they

experienced counselling firsthand. It could be said that overall, the students do not have a solid

and positive perception on the important of guidance and counselling.

Recommendations

To further improve the study, the researchers recommend the following actions:

1. A qualitative research with a semi-structured and open-ended approach questioning should be

conducted in order to fully explore the perception of students regarding the importance of

guidance and counselling. Students should be divided into those who have already experienced

counselling and those who did not so as to compare their perceptions, and it would be an

opportunity to shed some light on why students who have not even experienced counselling

perceive it the way they do.

2. Maranatha Christian Academy must conduct webinars and actively promote the importance of

guidance and counselling as a healthy way for students to express themselves, not just as a last

resort when they cannot handle things on their own.
