Course Description
The course introduces students to the principles of accounting, computerized accounting packages,
their general structures and practical application in business information management.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to;
Demonstrate knowledge of fundamental accounting concepts, including the definitions of
the elements of financial statements: assets; liabilities, equity; revenues and expenses.
Demonstrate knowledge of the accounting cycle, from transactions through to trial balance,
period-end adjustments and the preparation of the financial statements
Develop a working knowledge of how Computerized Accounting Software Applications
works in the processing of accounting data and the controls that are necessary to assure
accuracy and reliability of the data processed by the software.
Demonstrate competence by using Microsoft Spreadsheet Program operations to create
accounting and financial models that process accounting data
Use Tally ERP 9.0 Accounting Software to complete an accounting cycle by capturing and
inputting accounting data, processing and analyzing the data/ information to present it into
financial reports for interpretation.

Assignments
Assignments in this course will be accounting related exercises, reading assignments, and
some in-class activities. Assignments will be posted to the ERP, and due dates will be added
to the course calendar. We urge you to begin assignments as soon as possible to avoid the
bottleneck that inevitably occurs as due dates approach. You are responsible for completing
your assignments on time.
