CLEANSING THE SUBSTRATE


1. PURPOSE AND SCOPE
1.1. To specify how the thermal spray operator is to clean the substrate for
thermal spraying.
2. RESPONSIBILITY
2.1. Director of Operations, Quality Assurance Manager.
3. PROCEDURE
3.1. The thermal spray operator is to mask all surfaces on the substrate that is
not being blasted or sprayed.
3.2. Once masking is completed, the area that is to be blasted or sprayed must
be cleaned with alcohol or another MIL-STD-1687A approved solution.
3.3. Afterwards the operator should verify that the surface is visually free of
any contaminants that may hinder the spray process efficiency.
3.4. If there are any contaminants present, the operator should begin the
cleaning process again and not start process until the substrate is
completely clear of any contaminants..
3.5. Once the substrate is free of all contaminants the operator can begin the
spray process.
