 I can read and write words containing /ow/ and /n/ spelled ow, ou_, and kn_.
Structure/Activity:
 Start lesson with “Heggerty” a book of activities focused on Phonemic
Awareness *Activities vary each week*
o Rhyme Recognition: Thumbs up if a word rhymes, thumbs down if it
does not
o Blending Syllables: Teacher says the syllable for each word. Students
blend the syllables to say the whole word
o Isolating Final Sounds: Teacher says the word. Students repeat the
word and isolate the final sound
o Segmenting Syllables: Teacher says the word. Students repeat the
word and segment into syllables.
o Adding Final Syllables: Teacher says the word or word part. Students
repeat the word. Teacher says add /*/ at the end and the word is ___?
o Deleting Final Syllables: Teacher says the word. Students repeat the
word. The teacher says without /*/ what is left?
o Substituting Final Phonemes: Teacher says the word and says change
the /*/ to /*/. Students state the new word.
