NME’s Album of the Year for 1997. With orchestra,
gospel choir and band, this concert presents the
timeless album track by track.
Upon its release 14 years ago, Spiritualized’s space-rock
masterpiece was lauded as both a magnum opus and a grand
oddity as it charted the highest highs and the lowest lows of
the human condition.
Yet it wasn’t until frontman Jason Pierce – aka J. Spaceman –
was playing a festival at Australia’s Mt Buller that the notion
was first put to him of performing the cult album in its entirety.
“I always said it was a decision made at altitude,” Pierce says.
This epic concert has been performed at London’s Royal
Festival Hall, New York’s Radio City Music Hall and on the side
of Iceland’s infamous volcano. Now it’s Sydney’s turn.
