Reflection

This unit may be used in my future classroom as a way to teach students about

cardinal directions, positional words, about their community, and the importance of

directions. This unit may be used in a kindergarten classroom that is looking to find a way to

introduce these topics before they go into more depth about each section. This can be used

as a preview into what they will be learning within the next couple of weeks, along with how

materials can be put together like how it is important to know places inside the community,

because you can use a map to help guide you places knowing your directions and

landmarks. There are a lot of benefits that come with combining ELA standards to other

subjects. ELA is used a lot with other subjects, think about how often you are in a class like

social studies, science and you refer to a textbook. ELA is so important and it really is

implemented in a lot of lessons whether we realize it or not. It is important to keep in mind

that literature and social studies in general really do go together, as it is mostly reading

about things from the past, and in this lesson case, you are reading a different form, maps. I

think this assignment as a whole was very important and eye opening as it shows you what

it really is like to dive in, be creative, and think of how you can make a lesson come to life

inside the classroom, and put all the work in to use with educating your students. This was a

good practice and realization as to what it is going to be like when we begin making our own

lesson plans for our own classrooms. I think these lesson plans can really be used with

introduction to the subjects of community and maps, and with the general idea, can be used

for so many more concepts. Getting students interested, engaged, and practicing reading

will help their fluency, understanding, and will help raise their scores when it comes to

testing. Practicing reading is important, especially when students are able to get two forms

of knowledge in at once.I plan on implementing these lesson plans into my future classroom

as I chose the grade level that I am focusing to go into, and I am excited to bring these

activities that I worked hard to create and the ideas that I brought together to life.
