Chapter 1:-
Money Can't Buy Happiness
There was a man named James Carton, his wife died because
of a car accident. He had a daughter named Marisse. It was
his mother's birthday on this day. He was in the grocery
store buying groceries with her daughter Marisse. The
cashier started to scan things. The total bill was $14.56. He
removed his money and gave to the cashier. She said, "This is
six dollars and 14 cents. I said 14.56".
The man behind him was listening everything. James was in
a shock, he said "oh! I thought I had more. Let me see". He
searched through his wallet, but he had no money. He said
"This is all I have", the cashier said "then you have to put
something back". The people behind the line were
grumbling. James had bread, butter, a small a bottle of
mayonese and a small cake for his mom's birthday. He told
the cashier to remove the bottle of mayo. She scanned it and
kept it aside.
The customer at the last of the line shouted "Can you hurry
up please. I don’t have all day". James felt embarrassed and
said sorry to the customer. Marisse asked James "Is
everything okay?". James said that every things fine. But
there was still a problem. The total after removing mayo was
$12.86. Still not enough money. He looked at the cake. He
took a deep breath and said "You can take the cake out".
The cashier was going to pick up when suddenly Marisse
said, "Daddy, no. That is for granny's Birthday". The cashier
asked impatiently "Should I take it or not". James said to take
it. He said sorry to Marisse. The cashier scanned it and kept
it aside. Marisse was sadly looking at the cake. The cashier
said "At last it is six dollars and 4 cents". She gave them the
thing and they took it and walked out of the store.
The man behind James saw him go and pitied him. Both the
daughter and the dad were walking on the road. Marrise
stopped while walking. She was sad that this year they
couldn’t buy a cake for her grandma. James walked up to her
and said "Sweetie, it's gonna be okay". She said "But
grandma has been so sad lately, and the cake would have
made her so happy".
Suddenly a voice said "Excuse me". James looked to him and
saw that it was the customer behind him. He said "I am
sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you, I just saw what happened
back there and I thought maybe I could help so please take
this". He gave them a bag with something heavy. James
looked at it and saw there was the cake he was trying to buy
and the mayonese but couldn’t buy it. James said "Thank
you, but why are you doing this. You don’t even know us.",
the stranger said "I know what it's like to not to have
enough. When I was a small kid, my father and I were poor
and didn’t have enough to eat. We were homeless. We went
to a grocery store and when my father got to the cashier, he
didn’t have enough monet to pay. We left the store without
anything, not knowing how we were going to eat that night.
But out of nowhere, an amazing woman came and bought us
some food, we didn’t know how to repay her, but she gave us
a soft toy and said the only thing we needed was to help
someone in need. I will never forget that kind woman. I
thought she was giving me groceries but she gave a life
lesson that I will never forget. She made such a big
difference in my life and she would never know it."
James was stuuned. He said "Wow man, That’s an inspiring
story." Marrise was very happy. She said "My grandma is
going to be so happy." The stranger smiled. He gave them a
soft toy saying "Just always remember to make a difference
and pay your kindness towards other." Both the father and
the daughter said together "Thank you mister." The man
turns around and walks away. James and Marisse looked at
each other and walked away to their house. They were very
inspired.
At home grandma was reading an old novel. James and
Marisse entered the house. James said "Hey dad, we got
something for you."
There was a sudden pause. Grandma looked confused. Then
suddenly the daughter and the father started singing "Happy
Birthday to you, happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday dear
mom, Happy birthday to you." Grandma smiled while both
singers started walking towards him. Grandma said "This is
lovely, My favorite cake." She blew up the candles.
She started to weep. Marisse said "Grandma, why are you
crying." She said "It's nothing sweetheart. I am fine." James
insisted "Mom, what's wrong?" She said "It's just that, I
turned 84 years today and lately I wondered that did my life
had any purpose? Did I made any difference in this world."
James felt sad. He said to his mom that she shouldn't say
anything like that. Today was her birthday and she should
celebrate it. Grandma said sorry and she said "Let's
celebrate" while smiling. Both James and Marisse started
smiling too.
Suddenly grandma asked "Listen up son. How did you afford
to buy this cake? I know things are a little tough." James
sighed. He knew his mom would ask something like that. He
said "The truth is that I was out of money. I had to remove
somethings which included the cake too. A man brought all
this stuff. He didn’t took any money. The only things he
asked was to help somebody in need in the future. He even
gave us this soft toy." He gave her mom the soft toy. He said
while handing it "He said that someone gave him when he
was little." Grandma saw the soft toy and reacted like she
recognized it. She went into her past.
She remembered the soft toy because she was the only one
who gave it to the stranger. She was the person who bought
them groceries and handed the stranger the soft toy and
help people in need in the future. James saw the reaction on
her mother's face.
James asks "Mom, is everything okay?" She said "Yes, I
realized that I have made a difference in this world." James
was confused. He asks "What are you saying?" Grandma
explains him everything that how she met this stranger and
how she gave them the soft toy. James was astonished. He
was very happy and very motivated. He didn't knew that her
was the person who gave the stranger the toy. Grandma was
feeling very good. She wiped her tears and said "Now who
wants the first piece" playfully. Both the Father and the
daughter started fighting over the first piece like kids.
Moral:-
People, I think so you saw the message yourself. This story
proposed that the kindness you show somebody always
finds a way back to you. A very Kind man said "Kindness is
the make we leave on the earth"
