Summary of the Artifact:

The artifact that I feel best represents Standard 10: Leadership and Collaboration is a
welcome letter I created about myself for my student teaching placement. This letter
was an introduction of myself, and a way for my parents to get to know me better.
During my placement, I regularly communicated with my student’s parents. For
example, I sent home newsletters about upcoming school events and I used ClassDojo
to share positive feedback about the students.

Reflection:

I chose this welcome letter because it shows my commitment and leadership skills as a
teacher. I sent this letter home to parents during the first week of my placement to start
building a rapport with the student’s families. I also sent home newsletters and
ClassDojo messages to parents. I wanted to demonstrate to the parents my
commitment to their children and my focus on student learning. I know that teaching
requires a team of support and this can only be done in collaboration with the teacher,
the students’ families, the school staff, and the community members.
