Overview:-
The One way tag is used to indicate the access restriction on highways and other linear features as
appropriate. This means that this tag should be used when this way can only be used in one direction. Note
that a no entry sign prohibiting entry from one side or across one point of the road, does not automatically
imply that the entire road is one way.

Lane markings:-
In some areas, there will not be any street cameras resources available to make a decision, but some of the
aerial tools can provide a strong evidence to determine whether a street is one-way or not.

A roundabout is a type of circular intersection, a junction in which road traffic flows in one direction around a
central island. These are given based on the region and it varies region to region.

Junction=roundabout
While adding directions to the roundabouts, do not add "oneway=yes", instead add Junction=roundabout to the road. The moment we
add "junction=roundabout" the directions get automatically assigned to the road.Adding oneway=yes is redundant.

Here we have an example of editing roads that are conditionally one way. By default they are going to be bi-
directional unless specified otherwise. We add the time restriction to the road in its tags. This restriction
goes directly onto the road itself.
The image shows that we can see Selby Pl is a one way road on Sundays from 8:00 am to 1:00
pm. This will translate to oneway:conditional=yes @ (Su 08:00-13:00) as a tag for this road

Example 1.1
From the images below, we see image 11 has a condition “8AM to 4PM” school days, which means Bedford
Ave is a conditional one-way during 8AM to 4PM on school days. In such scenarios, we need to add the
conditional tag as in Image 12.

Note: After adding the conditional one-way tag, the road on OSM will then change to bi-directional road as
in Image 10, which may be ignored.

Edge Cases:-
In the below example we have a segment of Waterfront Place identified as having incorrect direction. Image
13 & 14 below represent the standard view & edit view of the reported error. We see all the roads are given
as bi-directional

Images 14 & 15 provide information on presence of a median between the two roads, which indicates that
the split road needs to have directions.

In image 18, we see a Keep Right sign directing traffic right, with this we can confirm the left side is a one
way going north east and the right side is a one way going south west. There is not always going to be
a ONE WAY sign to indicate a street is one way, the Keep Right sign may also be used and it gives enough
detail.

To confirm both turn channels are turning out from Waterfront Place we can also see signs at the bottom
that both face south bound traffic.

With the correct road directions added, Waterfront Place will look like the image 21.
Cycle Paths: - These are used only when we add directionality for cycle paths on the roads.

There are two ways to model cycle tracks. One possibility is to draw separate ways along the roadway
which are tagged as highway=cycle way. The alternative is to dd a cycle way=track tag to the existing way.
Both methods each have their pros and cons.
Cycle lanes in bidirectional motor car roads:-

Edge cases:
Exit only:
Add directions to the segment based on exit only sign in the absence of one-way sign. Add directions till
the next intersection.

Directions to the slip road:
Do not enter board can be considered as valid proof while adding directions to a slip road. Analyze the road
geometry properly before concluding “error segment is a slip lane”.

Presence of lane marking (highlighted) is also a valid proof while adding directions to the slip road.
Directions for Entry/Exit lane:

For an entry/exit lane do not enter board is sufficient to add directions to the segment, one-way board is
not necessary. Observe the geometry of the road segment in the below picture.

Exit only sign on right side: If the exit only sign is placed on the right side/center of the road in USA region,
road is only meant for the exit but not entry, please add directions accordingly.
We shouldn’t add directions based on sign present in the above picture, because position of board is not at
the center of the gate but placed to left side.
Ignore Signs
STOP and YEILD: Sometimes in USA instead of full stop line, roads have stop/yield written at the center of road. Stop/yield written at the
center of road means, road is unidirectional. In the below figure 1 red lines indicate parking space of vehicles.
Directionality (Lane closure) update:

In US: In the cases sudden lane closures and presence of do not enter sign boards, add directions to the road, as shown in the below
image.

In UK: Similar situation in UK. Generally in UK there will be an additional tag to these roads which is “oneway:bicycle=no” based on
street sign circled in image 3.
Directions for Fish Bone Parking:

In presence of fish bone parking we are going to add directions as shown in image 3. Please refer image 4 for a better understanding on
how the directions are to be added.
However, if we find a combination of two different parking aisle structures we will not add directions unless there are lane markings
present. If we refer image 5 we can see on one side there is fish bone parking and on the other side there are straight parking aisles also
there are no lane markings present hence directions are not needed in such cases.
In image 6 we can see there is combination of two different parking aisle structures along with lane markings. We will be adding directions
as shown in image 7.
