1. Near miss incidents reporting is a proactive strategy for the company to prevent Incidents that
may result inn illness, diseases or ill-health termed as accidents, so it is an opportunity to
prevent future accidents.
2. The manager should press on the point that the worker who is reporting the near miss incident
that he has observed in the company will not be named, this will encourage the workers to
report the near miss incidents.
3. Near miss incidents that are investigated further may be used for improvement of safety
system, reduction of risks and controlling of hazards present at workplace. Investigation will
provide further opportunity for training and feedback and will result in continuous improvement
in safety system.
4. Further investigation of near miss incident will involve the participation of workers so they can
play a role in continuous improvement in the safety management system and to ensure the
workers that they have the opportunity to voice their opinions.
5. Investigation of Near miss incidents results in showing that what was the root cause and
immediate cause of the incident so that further action could be taken to prevent future
incidents.
6. If we look at the history of companies who have a strong safety system in place to prevent
accidents, near miss reporting was a crucial part of their health and safety policy and Employees
were encouraged to report Near-miss incidents.
7. According to Statistics of Health and safety Executive, it has been reported that for one accident
there are 90 near miss. If these near misses are reported and action is taken to prevent future
occurrences, we might be able to Control an accident that is about to happen.
8. The health and safety policy and safe system of work for any company needs continuous
improvements and Near Miss reporting is one of the factors that can identify the hazards and
deficiencies in the system. So, it plays an important role in development of Policies and
implementation of Health and safety system.
9. Investigation of Near miss incidents have the potential of saving time and money for an
organization, this can be explained by the fact that any accident that occurs in a workplace may
result in loss of productive time and financial resources of the company.
10. Risk assessment at workplace play an important role in Health and safety system of the
company and Near miss reporting and investigation will show how to improve the Risk
assessment system of the company.
11. The near miss investigation would empower the employees and will show that Higher
management is taking safety of workers seriously and will improve the safety culture of the
organization. Further it will show that safety is everyone’s responsibility
12. The manager should bring an incentive system for workers that play a role in continuous
improvement of safety culture of the organization and actively participate in near miss
reporting.
13. The manager should explain the worker that if near miss incidents are reported and
investigated, this would avoid the blame game as the company is putting a positive trend and a
precaution for safety of others.
