Primary Assistant Teacher Job Description

REQUIREMENTS:
 Meets all state standards for early childhood teacher.
 Available to work 5 days per week M-F from 8:00 am-4:00 pm
 CPR, First Aid, Universal Precautions certifications currently updated
 Strong work history and good references
 Experience in an early childhood classroom
 Montessori experience a plus
 Professional appearance and attitude
 College degree preferred but not required
 Clean criminal record
 Able to lift and turn carrying at least 60 lbs. and sit on a tile floor for at least 60 mins.

 Is reliable, committed, energetic, patient and detail oriented
 Understands the importance of professionalism in the school setting
 Is comfortable working with children ages 2 ½ to 6 years old, including bathroom assistance
 Is able to easily bend, squat, lift, climb, carry and sit on the floor for extended periods
 Understands and can explain developmentally appropriate practice at the preschool level

DUTIES:
 Assist lead teacher in implementing the Montessori pedagogical approach in the classroom
 Organize and implement art and craft projects for the children under the guidance of the lead
 Manage daily transitions with the children setting firm limits and using loving guidance
 Take direction from the lead teacher and follow through with it positively
 Model kindness, responsibility, and peaceful interactions for the children
 Refer all significant parent questions and concerns to the lead teacher
 Perform daily classroom maintenance duties such as snack preparation and disinfecting
 Pursue continuing education opportunities – specifically learning more about Montessori
 Attend all staff meetings and teacher work days
