The first time I heard "Funky Galileo" was when one of my favorite content creators,
Michael Reeves, posted about it on Instagram. I remember just sitting there, in my bed, listening
to the song and just feeling so relaxed. The vibes and feelings the song gave me were just so
calming and peaceful, while also being so energetic and happy. It was like it combined classical
music, something I enjoy listening to occasionally, with modern music. It was a bizarre
combination of feelings and sounds, but one I really came to crave in a way that made me binge
this song over the course of 2021 and eventually give it the title of "my favorite song."
While I have already talked a little bit about the emotions that I feel from the song, I feel
that the allusion to Galileo is a good thing to touch on. From the song title to who the song is
about, Galileo is constantly referenced throughout the song. It starts with people calling his
ideas crazy and idiotic. They all stay away from him as he dances in this club, but they are
unable to tear their eyes away from him. Later, he relates directly to the audience of this song,
sharing his feelings of having so many emotions and ideas pent up and not being able to do all of
them. I just feel like this song relates to the original Galileo, with his revolutionary ideas and the
way that everyone wanted to stay away from him and his ideas, but in the end, couldn't help but
The song also uses Galileo to bring up being yourself and doing as you want to do. In the
song, Funky Galileo is dancing in the middle of the club, not caring what other people think and
just wanting to dance without being judged. Wanting to be yourself also has that effect and that
feeling behind it, of not wanting to be judged for the things you like, the ideas you have, or the
person you are. Everyone wants to be true to themselves and be free, but sometimes we feel that
we cannot truly be free with society judging us from every angle. I believe that this song is the
change we need to see in society, about not judging others for being themselves.
