Field Experience #2: Classroom Management

Classroom Management Plan:

Classroom Management is one of the biggest components in making students successful. I

believe that kids that are in an environment that is well structured, safe, and positive will not
only learn better but feel secure. Kids need a positive, safe, and structured learning environment
to fully comprehend what they are learning.

Philosophical Statement:
As a teacher, I am determined to create not only an environment where they can learn but where
the children can also feel safe, loved, and comfortable. I believe that children who feel
comfortable in their environment, learn better overall. I believe that it makes the children feel
free to engage by asking and answering questions and asking for help.

I will also go out of my way to get to know each child individually so I can provide various
activities that spark interest in every student. As well as to make them feel that they are cared for
and listened to. I believe showing you care motivates the students to do better in the classroom,
both academically and behaviorally. I believe in establishing positivity, patience, structure, and
kindness in the classroom.

Room Arrangement:
When the students enter the classroom they will be hit with lots of natural lighting, along with a
colorful and open layout. There will be six table groups, sitting four students in each group that
will have their own color-coordinated. They will face not only each other but have a full view of
the bright colored carpet and whiteboard with a positive affirmation for the day. Along with the
room, they will see plenty of posters that vary the alphabet, numbers, time clocks, and positive
reminders about the day and rules, along with affirmations. There will also be a display of
classroom duties that will be given to students and will be rotated every week. I will have string
lights hanging from across the ceiling. Facing the students, there will be a whiteboard and
alongside that will be pins of “free play”, which includes educational flashcard games, puzzles, a
set of yoga cards, etc.

Having the students work in groups will give the students lots of opportunities to learn from each
other and ask table partners for help. As well as learning important team working and sharing
skills. At each table, there will be a singular art pin that is not only the table color but has lots of
supplies that can be used for activities.

As the students sit at their desks, they will have an open few to my desk, which is a round table
with different small chairs so students that need to talk to me can feel open to walking up. My
teacher's desk will be next to cubbies, where I keep extra crayons, markers, scissors,
whiteboards, etc. And behind me will be bins with multiple different lesson plans and teacher
materials needed throughout the school day.

In the corner of my classroom, there will be a “Calm Area”, so if a student's emotions are out of
control, they have the option to sit themselves down, read, draw, or just sit to regulate their
emotions and return to the lesson, assignment, or group work being able to work out whatever
issue or feelings they may be dealing with. The “Calm Area”, will be an area where there are
books, a stuffed furry dog, and a notebook to draw.

Classroom Rules:
As a class, I will set expectations along with a set of rules to help manage the classroom. I
believe if the students know what is expected of them that they will be well prepared and will
have a better chance of following directions the first time. I will have cues that the students will
learn and will practice as a class to know they are expected to stop on cue. For example The cue
“class class”, the students will respond “yes yes”, and stop while having their eyes facing the
teacher, and ready to listen and follow directions.
I will also have a poster that has a set of rules and even incentives that the students could earn if
displaying the following set of rules. All of the rules and expectations will be communicated to
parents and administrators via my newsletter that will be printed out and sent home with students
and is available on my teacher/classroom website.

Classroom procedures:
For children, consistency is important for them to follow routines. I will have the schedule
written out along with the tasks for the students. As a class, there will be a variety of duties that
are given out at the beginning of each week and each student is responsible for that task, which
will be reviewed at the morning roundup.
My lessons plans will be structured coordinated to the school schedule. The students will usually
start each lesson on the carpet, so as a class we can go over instructions, examples, or watch
something that goes along with the lesson. Afterward, they will go back to their desk and either
work independently, in pairs, or on the carpet with me if they are struggling.

Each student will have an individualized homework folder that has practice sight words, vowels,
and vocabulary words for that week to practice at home which is their homework. Along with
short passages to read along with parents. Their progress is to be marked down on a sheet of
paper that is also included in the front of the folder.

As far as grading I will do that based on what the student is showing, accounting for effort and
the understanding of the material. I will keep all of their work in their files to share scores on
assessments with parents. The individual homework folder will also be tracked and graded each
week and I will also provide daily reminders on the “Remind” app to make sure parents don’t
forget to practice with their students.

Positive Reinforcement:
I believe that giving out positive reinforcement will make the students who are always on task
and following directions feel seen, and give other students motivation to work towards being
better. Focusing on the negative will only cause students to shut down and it doesn’t motivate
them to do anything. Positive reinforcement can only make a child smile and feel good about
themselves, creating a safe environment that I strive to have in my classroom. However, if these
efforts do not work, I intend to do my best to work with the students if they do have or show
behavior problems in the classroom.

I will not only provide verbal positive reinforcement but also incentives so they can individually
or collectively earn prizes. Rewards encourage students to work hard and do their best to follow
directions, as well as learn how to be role models and be a leader to their peers.

Support in and outside the classroom:

As a teacher, earning your student's trust is important, but also letting them know that you
support them will let them know that you care. Making gaining their trust easier. Many students,
unfortunately, struggle with having the confidence to ask for help but having them know that all
you want to do is help them will put them at ease. This makes it easier for them to ask for help
with other things they may be struggling with. Feeling that endless support makes them feel safe
and cared for, which is again the environment I would like to set in my classroom. As a teacher, I
will do my best to show my support whether it's getting out in the community, creating clubs,
creating school events, or simply just showing up. The students do notice and feel the support,
which will help maximize the effect of my classroom management.

Conclusion:
These are all the tools that I plan to bring into my classroom and hope to learn more ways to
improve my classroom management. I am aware that a lot of classroom management tools and
revisions come with practice and experience. I still have lots to learn, but will continue to do my
absolute best to establish a positive, safe, and loving environment. Including a healthy and
positive relationship with the students, fellow teachers, and administration as well.
