Heli-Coil Inserts
DISCWSSION:
Service experience has shown that in some instances
after insertion of t h e heli-coil inserts t h e
"tangsu at t h e bottom of the inseyts are n o t b e i n g
removed, This c o n d i t i o n h a s caused t h e "tangs" on
the insert to interfere w i t h the screw/bolt
threaded i n t o it, causing severe problems in the-
removal of the screw or b o l t at t h e n e x t
disassembly. This c o n d i t i o n could also cause
difficulty in removing the insert should it become
damaged by t h e screw/bolt.
REQUIRED ACTION:
Effective t h e d a t e of this service letter, at the
next disassembly for overhaul or other reasons?
inspect all h e l i - c o i l inserts f o r presence of the
ntangsa in t h e lower poction a s shown, If the
"tangsu are present, use a punch to break them o f f
or grasp t h e "tangn w i t h a pair of needle nose
pliers and nove it back and forth u n t i l . it breaks
o f f , The "tang" is notched to f a c i l i t a t e easy
removal
