MODULE 6 IN SCIENCE 5 (Third Quarter)

MARCH 14 to 18, 2022

TITLE
GOING THE DISTANCE
OVERVIEW
Observation and measurements of the distance, position, and speed are used to describe
the motion of an object. The speed of an object refers to how fast or how slow the object is
moving. This module will help you understand and calculate the motion of an object through the
given formula. This will also presents the appropriate SI unit to use after getting the accurate
and precise distance, speed, and time of an object in motion.

OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, you are expected to:
 identify the different tools used for measuring motion of an object;
 identify units to be used when measuring time, speed, and distance; and
 illustrate motion using real objects.

VALUES
Stop, look, and listen. Remember to practice road safety whenever you are traveling or
commuting. You must be observant of your surroundings to avoid any untoward
accidents.

CONTENT

Good day, Kids! Welcome to the

world of Science. For this lesson, you
are going to learn about motion at how
to get the distance, speed, and time of a
moving object. Let’s go!

DIRECTIONS: For a starter, take a look on the given pictures in each number. Differentiate
which of these things is the fastest or the slowest to move. Share you answers during your
online class.

Guide Questions:
a. What makes you think that the other thing is the fastest and the later is the
slowest?
b. Do you think that the thing you choose as the slowest can be faster? And the
thing you choose as the fastest can be slower? How?

We always observe the movement of an object or body caused by various

forces. We can describe the motion using distance, position, and speed.

Let’s have a good and brief discussion about today’s topic; “Speed, Distance,
Time”. And to make it more interesting and enjoyable, you may visit the link to
watch the video about motion of an object: https://youtu.be/86xuTrYOdV8
You can also watch the video in your Genyo account.

MOTION
MOTION is the process by which an object's position changes
over time. Motion is mathematically described in terms of
displacement, distance, velocity, acceleration, speed, and time.
The motion of a body is observed by attaching a frame of reference
to an observer and measuring the change in position of the body
relative to that frame with change in time.

DISTANCE
DISTANCE is a measure of how fast an object has traveled or how far it is from its point of
origin. It is measured in the same way as length, and its SI unit is the meter as well. Shorter
distance can be measure using metersticks or measuring tape expressed in centimeters or
meters, while longer distances are expressed in kilometers. An ODOMETER is an instrument
that measures the distance traveled by a vehicle.

An object is moving if its position relative to a reference point has changed. To locate an
object, identify its position relative to another point to another object, which is usually in a fixed
position.

A car does not always move at the same speed. In reality, it is actually difficult to attain
constant motion because a moving object would sometimes slow down or speed up if
necessary, especially when it is about to change direction. We can determine the speed of the
car at any instant by looking at its speedometer. SPEEDOMETER is a gauge that measures
and displays the instantaneous speed of a vehicle. INSTANTANEOUS SPEED is the speed of
an object at a particular moment (instant) in time.

Motion of an object can also be described based on its average speed. AVERAGE SPEED
refers to the total distance covered in the total amount of time it traveled.

DIRECTIONS: Answer the given questions in each problem. Write your solution and answer in
your intermediate paper. Prepare for justifying your answer during online class.
1. An airplane flies with a constant speed of 680 km/h. How long will it take to travel a distance

of 1700 kilometers?
2. Sarah rides her horse with a constant speed of 8 km/h. How far can she travel in 2 hours?
3. An airplane flies with a constant speed of 960 km/h. How long will it take to travel a distance
of 240 kilometers?
4. An airplane flies 230 km in 15 minutes. What is its average speed in kilometers per hour?
5. Noah roller skates 42 km in 3 hours 30 minutes. What is his average speed in kilometers per
hour?
6. Find speed when, distance is 142 km and time is 2 hours.
7. Find out the distance covered when, speed is 960 km/hour and time is 1 hour 50 minutes.
8. Determine the time taken when, distance is 7150 km and speed is 780 km/hr.
9. If distance travelled by a train is 495 km in 4 hours 30 minutes, what is its speed?
10. A cyclist covers 950 m in 5 minutes. Find his speed in km/ hour.
