Attempted Cheque Fraud-Beneficiary
"M/S RAMANAND MULTISTATE CO-OP CREDIT SOCY. LTD.’
1. We are in receipt of a communication from Centralized Back Office (CBO), Western
‘Grid, Mumbal wherein it has been informed that some unscrupulous elements have
‘made an attempt to defraud the bank by presenting a forged cheque in inward clearing,
2. The modus operandi of the attempted fraud is as follows
2.1 A cheque of Rs. 10,50,00,000/- was presented in inward clearing by RBL Bank Lic
{favouring "A/S Ramanand Multistate Co-op Credit Society Ltd”.
2.2 Looking atthe high value of transaction, Centralized Back offic officials called up
‘the base branch and customer to obtain confirmation regarding authenticity of
cheque.
2.3 The drawer informed the branch that they have not fsued any such cheque and.
concequently cheque was returned.
3. Branches are advised to exercise caution in case they receive any cheque in favour of
"WS —RAMANAND MULTISTATE CO-OP CREDIT SOCY. LTD” for
Payment/RTGS/NEFT/Inter-SOL Transter/Clearing.
4, Although the fraud was averted cue to alertness of CBO branch officials, however the
surging trend warrants extra caution on the part of field functioneries. Branches are
advised to take precautionary measures as furnished below to prevent such instances
Of fraud/attempted frauds:
41, Incase of cheques offs 7.00 lakhs and above, generate a ist of cheques lodged
‘in clearing (Use Option 15 in Query) every day and contact the customer for
‘obtaining confirmation. It has been observed that branches are not adhering to
this guideline strictly which fs leading to many frauds
‘4.2. Branches are advised to replace the old cheque books of the customer with
cheque books having Alpha Numeric Random Number.
4.3, Branches are advised to update the latest Mobile Numbers in accounts of the
‘customers and register them for SMS alerts. It should also be ensured that KYC
In the accounts ts periodically updated4.4. There is @ need to exercise extra caution whenever a cheque is received for
Inter SOL transfers/NEFT/RTGS/Other SOL's NEFT or RTGS. Branches are
advised to ensure to contact base branch and/or customer before passing of
cheque.
A. Branches should strictly adhere to guidelines on passing of cheques recelved for
transfer/cash payments/clearng including verification of CTS security features,
signatures and mandate in the account.
5. All Branches/Service Branches are advised to exercise caution and ensure strict
ompltance with all laid down precautionary measures. Fumished below are the
