Analogy of the Cell System

Organelle / Organelle Computer Part

Computer Part Function Function

1. Nucleus / Central Processing The nucleus is responsible for the CPU - just like the nucleus, the CPU
Unit (CPU) regulation of the cell. The nucleus also acts as the main processor and
stores the genetic information, the controls the computer system.
DNA.

2. Ribosomes / Transistors Ribosomes are where the proteins are Transistors - the transistors
synthesized. manipulate the codes in a computer
system, just like the ribosome which
synthesizes proteins.

3. Endoplasmic Reticulum / The endoplasmic reticulum produces Circuits - the computer circuits
Circuits proteins for the cell to function. transmits information and electricity to
the motherboard.

4. Golgi Apparatus / Graphics The golgi apparatus is responsible for Graphics Card - just like the Golgi
Card processing, packaging and apparatus, the Graphics Card of the
transporting proteins inside the cell. computer processes and packages
information and sends it out
throughout the computer.

5. Mitochondria / Power Grid The mitochondria produce chemical Power grid supplies - same as the
Supplies energy (ATP) in order for the cell’s mitochondria, the power grid of the
biochemical reactions. computer provides power that is
needed for the computer.

6. Vacuole / Solid State Drive The role of the vacuole in plant cells is SSD (Solid State Drive) - Just like the
storage and handling of waste vacuole, its function too is storage of
products. information of the computer, and it
also handles the waste information
inside the computer.

7. Lysosome / Anti-virus Digests harmful substances that enter Antivirus software - This kind of
software the cell. software protects the computer from
various harmful programs such as
malware, viruses, etc. similar to how a
lysosome ensures that there are no
harmful substances within the cell.
8. Cytoplasm / Computer Desk Fluid where organelles are suspended Computer Desk - Where most
computer parts are located

9. Vesicles / Data Packets Move molecules, secrete substances, Data Packets - since it can carry many
digest materials, or regulate the types of information just like the
pressure in the cell vesicles.

10. Cell Membrane / USB Ports regulate the flow of water and other USB port - because, like the cell
material in and out of the cell membrane, the USB port controls
what devices go into and out of the
computer.
