VOICE Definition :- VOICE :- Voice is that form of verb which shows whether the subject does something or has something done to the subject. OR The voice of a verb describes the relationship between the action (or state) that the verb expresses and the verb expresses and the participants identified by its arguments (subject, object, etc.) Types of Veice :- There are two types of voice :- a) Active Voice b) Passive Voice A] ACTIVE VOICE : When the subject is the agent or doer of the action is called as Active voice. Or, A verb is said to be active voice when its form shows that the person or thing denoted by the subject does something. Ex:- i) The peon opened the gate. ii) He loves me iii) Paul and Mary will marry in June. B] PASSIVE VOICE When the subject is the target of the action is called as Passive voice. Or, A verb is said to be in passive voice when its form shows that something is done to the person or thing denoted by the subject. Ex i) The gate was opened by the peon. ii) |am loved by him. Or, | am loved. iii) Paul and Mary (They) will be married in June. SOME POINTS TO BE CONSIDERED WHILE MAKING ACTIVE VOICE IN PASSIVE VOICE :- a) The subject of the active voice will be used as the object of the passive voice and vice versa. b) Verb will always present in its third form in the passive voice c) Put by after the third form of the verb. d) Some helping verb will be used in the Passive voice :- Present Indefinite :- is/am/are Present Continuous :- is/am/are + being Present Perfect :- has/have + been Past Indefinite :- was/were Past Continuous :- was/were + being Past Perfect :- had + been Future Indefinite :- will/shall + be Future Prefect :- will/shall + have been Note :- The passive of prefect continuous tense (past, present and future) and future continuous tense will not be used. e) The subject of the active voice will be change into the object of the pronoun in the passive voice. 1 me We us You you They them He him She her Who by whom Name it will be same i) Present Indefinite Tense :- Stature Active Voice :- Subject + V" + Object Passive voice :- Sub (obj of AV) + is/am/are + v° + by + obj (sub of AV) Ex :- He loves me. | am loved by him. Or, | am loved. ii) Present Continuous Tense :- Stuccture : Active Voice :- Sub + is/am/are + v* (ing) + obj Passive Voice :- Sub (obj of AV) + is/am/are + being + v* + obj (sub of AV) Ex :- 1am writing a letter. Aletter is being written by me. iii) Present Prefect Tense Stuicture : Active Voice :- Sub + has/have + v’ + obj Passive Voice :- Sub (obj of AV) + has/have + been + v° + obj (sub of AV) Ex :- You have taught English to us. English has been taught by you to us. Or, We have been taught English by you. iv) Past Indefinite Tense Stucture : Active Voice :- Sub + v’ + obj Passive Voice :- Sub (obj of AV) + was/were + v? + by + obj (sub of AV) Ex:- You wrote a letter. A letter was written by you. v) Past Continuous Tense Stuicture : Active Voice :- Sub + was/were + v' + obj Passive Voice :- Sub (obj of AV) + was/were + being + v° + obj (sub of AV) Ex :- | was writing a letter. A letter was being written by me. vi) Past Perfect Tense Stuuture :- Active Voice :- Sub + had + v? + obj Passive Voice :- Sub (obj of AV) + had + been + v? + obj (sub of AV) Ex = You had taught English to us. English had been taught by you to us or, We had been taught English by you. vii) Future Indefinite Tense ; Structure : Active Voice :- Subject +will/shall + V' + Object Passive voice :- Sub (obj of AV) + will/shall + be + v* + by + obj (sub of AV) Ex :- He will love me. I shall be loved by him. Or, I shall be loved. viii) Future Prefect Tense :- Stuscture :- Active Voice :- Sub + will/shall + have + v? + obj Passive Voice :- Sub (obj of AV) + will/shall + have + been + v? + obj (sub of AV) Ex :- You will have taught English to us. English will have been taught by you to us. Or, We will have been taught English by you. Imperative Sentence :- If someone gives order, suggestion, advice, request, prayer, curse, etc. then the passive voice will be done in the grammar manner. i) Stuscture :- Passive Voice :- Let + sub + be + v° + obj Ex :- Bring a glass of water. Let a glass of water be brought. ii) If please/kindly in the active voice of the sentence then it is replaced by you are requested to. Ex :- Please sit down. You are requested to sit down. Interrogative Sentence :- W.H. Word Auxiliary Word (why/where/how/who/what) (is/am/are/was/were/ will/shall/do/does/did/ has/have/had) W.H. Question Word Active Voice :- W.H. word+ relevant helping verb + sub + main verb + object +? Passive Voice :- W. H. word + relevant helping verb + sub + v° +by + obj +? Ex :- Why are you doing this? Why is this being done by you? Auxiliary Verb Active Voice :- Relevant auxiliary verb + sub + main verb+ object +? Passive Voice :- Relevant auxiliary verb + sub + v’ + by + obj +? Ex» Do you know me? Am | known to you?
