ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Projects “Numerical Study and Experimental Validation of the Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Sandwich
Panels (RCSPs) Subjected to Blast Load”
During our Final Year Project (FYP), we proposed a numerical model for Reinforced Concrete Sandwich Panel (RCSP)
under Blast loading. The purpose of the model was to validate the behaviour of RCSPs under Blast Loading by a
nonlinear software package. The model was based on the experimental work of our supervisor, Engr. Asim Abbas.
Experimental results of four full-scale models were used. The analysis was carried out in Abaqus, a (non-linear
structural analysis package). The models were successfully validated (shows same results as experimental). Overall,
we concluded that Abaqus is a very effective tool for the analysis of sandwich structures under Blast Loads. While
working on the behaviour of Reinforced concrete sandwich panels subjected to blast load, we found it to be an
economical and effective barrier for minimizing the effect of the blast.
