● Student Name: Sara Baiza

● Date: 1/22/21
● Artifact Description: A 2-D drawing of a Truss Bridge from a side angle
● What you learned: I learned that even though duplicating lines makes a
perfect copy, some adjustments are still needed when measuring out the
length of the bridge. I also learned that it takes some perseverance when
creating unique shapes on a drawing software. I use several arches in my
bridge design and it was a little trickier than I initially thought it would be.
● National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS)•S
Addressed: 4b - Students select and use digital tools to plan and manage a
design process that considers design constraints and calculated risks.
● Application of Skills Learned for the Future: How do you see the project
fitting into different areas of the school curriculum if you were to extend the
activity to actually building the bridges with students. I see this fitting into the
curriculum in terms of learning about different 2D and 3D shapes. Children
are taught about the different structural integrity of shapes in the real world,
so having them draw or build a model would enforce this.
● What curricular areas, or learning styles would be addressed if students were
building these bridges as 3-dimensional models? Kinesthetic learning would
be the main form of curricula that would be involved in a project like this. The
learning style associated would be mathematical/logical, and interpersonal if
done in a group.
● How can drawing and model building be used in your own classroom even if
it is not a bridge you are building? Drawing and model building can be
involved heavily in mathematics, specifically geometry. Creating 3D models
out of paper can demonstrate to students what finding the area of a 3D shape
will look like.
● What else can be designed instead, but still cover the concepts of learning
how to manipulate drawing objects on screen? Students could be instructed
to design a name tag for their desk and personalize it with their name and
favorite things using digital drawing software.
