W.8.3 Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective
technique, relevant descriptive details, and well-structured event sequences.
o a. Engage and orient the reader by establishing a context and point of view and
introducing a narrator and/or characters; organize an event sequence that unfolds
naturally and logically.
o d. Use precise words and phrases, relevant descriptive details, and sensory
language to capture the action and convey experiences and events.
o e. Provide a conclusion that follows from and reflects on the narrated experiences
or events.

Objectives:
Students will be able to create a short narrative story following an imagined plot and coming to a
logical end.
Students will be able to identify parts of a narrative story, such as rising action, climax, and
falling action.
Materials needed:
Computer with Microsoft PowerPoint
Time for writing
Two short stories for example
Activity (20-25 minutes): After power point, we will read a second short story. Then students
will be asked to identify the parts of the story that related to a narrative story (rising action,
climax, falling action, and so on)
Check for Understanding: After discussion, assign students to write their own short narrative
story.
