983709101 ‘GROUP{0761) (SMHSB253-00) sMes -0761 ° ‘The 6V7898 Dial Bore Gauge Group permits measurements tobe taken in diameter ranges of 50.0 to 200.0 mm in increments of 0.002 mm. The gauge has a depth range of 13 to 300 mm, This high degree of accuracy is needed, especially in applications such as the measurement of Connecting rod bores. NOTICE ‘This isa precision instrument. Always be careful when using tho gauge fo provent damage andlor loss of ajustmant tothe Instrume ie shown in thi instruction toegust the d ‘remember that the gauge part spproximatoly the samo temperature or the readings will nt be accurate. Gavge Port Ba Tok How To Use The 6V7898 Dial Bore Gauge Group (1) Find the correct gauge point using the table below. For example, if the bore to be measured has a diameter of 114 mm, use gauge point no. 7+ 2 Teowres save ‘eexcarronsa faouncrtn name “toe Seoecxsnuae ae 1 0-60 m ree ve ae + em eee 18 5 56 sea 16-195 yee 108-17 me aes 118 a (2) Install the correct gauge point 1) inthe dal bore gauge. Catefull put gauge group (2), wth Gauge point, nt the size setting fidure. See For ‘SMHS8254 for adjustment procedure. Adjust spindié (8) unt reais the exact size being set: (6) Adjust gauge point (1) unt incicator hand (4)is atthe 12 dock (straight ip) positon, and counter hand (5 is st" poston: Use wrench (6) to tighten locking nut (7) to hold gauge point (1) inthe adjusted positon “le (4) Again put the dal bore gauge into the size setting fiture. To zero the dal incicator, loosen bezel screw (8). Move the indicator back and forth as shown, until the minimum reading is obtained. Reset zero as necessary by turing bezel 9), then tighten bezel screw (8) (6) Putthe cial bore gauge int the bore that is to be measured and work the gauge back and fort to get the minimum measurement. Any reading other than zero, fs the amount of deviation, plus (+) or minus (+) from the size fr which the gauge was originally set Adjustment Of Centralizer Points (1) For maximum accuracy, the centralizer points must be in frm contact withthe wall of the bore being measured. (2) Put 1.98 mm hex wrench (1) in centralizer stop agjusiment (2), and tum the stop adjustment wih the wrench to adjust centralzer points (3) 80 they are firmly in contact with the wal ofthe bore being checked. (9) Slide tne gauge head IN and OUT ofthe bore several times to chetk the adjustment. The more near the centralize points are set tothe actual, bore size being checked, the easier it wil be to put the gauge ito the bore. The egntralizer points must alvays make contact with the sides ofthe bore Adjustment Of Worn Centralizer Points ‘When the centralizer points (1) become worn, they must be ase to Keep accuracy. Always adjust bth paints atthe same ie. Do tis by puting the long leg of 238 mm hex wrench (2) through bath centralizerPoints, and tuning bath points atthe same tne, uni new wear surfaces ‘are in contact with the wall ofthe bore. Changing The Position Of The Indicator Housing (1) necessary, the indicator housing can be tured up to 90" in relation to the gauge head using the following procedure, Pu the 2.38 mm wrench (1) into access hole (A) forthe locking screw. Loosen the locking screw 1/2.no more than tum (180°) (2) Turn the indicator housing to the position desired. Hold indicator housing (2) in one hand and the gauge head inthe other, thon slice the indicator housing slighty away from the extension sleeve (2). The indicator hand will mave tothe 9 clock position (its maximum counterclockwise pesition). NOTE: The revolution counter hand must be at“O" when the indicator hand ie at 0" (3) Siighty twist the indicator housing and extension sleave assembly from side to side and push (slide) them together until the indicator hand just ‘bagins to move clockwise. Now reverse the direction, pling the inccator housing away from th extension sleeve, until the indicator hand stops between 9 viiock and 10 o'clock. Use wrench (1) to tighten te indicator locking screw, Rotation Of Gauge Point Ball It the gauge point ball becomes flat or wor, rotate (tun) the bal lo give it anew contact position, according o the procedure that follows. Puta clean cloth under the gauge point all during this procedure. (1) Put gauge point bal tool (1) n positon inthe slot in gauge pont 2), under gauge point ball (3), Put your thumb over te ball and slowly pry up vith too! (1) unt the ball comes out (2) Turn the ball so an unworn part wl face out ofthe gauge point, and use gauge pont bal tol 1 to press the bal nto the gauge point. Press the gauge point ball against a hard surface to make sure tis fully seated inthe gauge point Rotation Of Indicator Finger Ball (1) IFingicatr bal (1) becomes fat or worn, use ified finger ball tol (2) oremove he ballSort can be tumed to give ita new contact postion, according othe procedure that follows, Put a clean clathuner the gauge point bal during this procedure, (2) Push the blade of bal tool (2) into the slot under ball (1) n the indicator finger which intersects the ball socket. Pry up td remove ball (1). Ball (1) willbe held in positon in toot (2). (6) Turn bal (1) in bal tot (2), to change the locaton ofthe Nat spot. (4) Push down on centralzer point (3) and inser gauge point bal to! (4) under bal socket (5). This ls done to aid in instalation of ball (1) anc to prevent damage tothe gauge when ball (1) is again installed in the ball socket, (6) Use indicator ger ball oo (2) to instal bal (1) in postion in ball socket (6), then remove foo (2). Make sure the balls uly inthe socket by pushing fimty against the ball wth the back of all oo 2). (6) Remove gauge point bal tol (4). Check the calibration ofthe gauge. Repair Of The 6V7898 Dial Bore Gauge Group ‘The dial bore gauge group should be sent tothe manufacturer for service. A etter should be with the returned gauge group, giving a description of the problom and the dat of purchase trom Caterplar. Gauge groups les than one year old wil be repaired under warranty, excopt fr abuse. Cost of outot-warrant repairs wil be charged tothe aver. The gauge group should be sent othe folowing repair contr.
