Course Outcomes: At the end of the Course the student shall be able to
CO1: summarize the stress-strain behavior of different materials.
CO2: identify the difference between compression and tension testing
CO3: evaluate the hardness of different materials
CO4: calculate the elastic constants of the materials
CO5: explain the relation between elastic constants and hardness of materials

LIST OF EXPERIMENTS

Note: Any twelve of the following experiments are to be performed


1. Study the stress – strain relations of Mild Steel by conducting tension test on U.T.M.
2. Study the stress – strain relation of Aluminum by conducting tension test.
3. Find the compressive strength of wood
4. Find the shear strength of steel
5. Find the bending strength of steel
6. Find the Brinell hardness number of steel and aluminum
7. Find the Rockwell hardness number of steel and aluminum
8. Determine the Modulus of rigidity of Solid shaft made of steel and aluminum.
9. Determine the Modulus of rigidity of Hollow shaft made of steel and aluminum
10. Find the stiffness and modulus of rigidity of the material of a spring by conducting
compression test.
11. Determine the Young’s modulus of the material by conducting deflection test on a simply
Supported beam.
12 Determine the Young’s modulus of the material by conducting deflection test on a cantilever
beam
13. Find impact strength of a given material by conducting a) Charpy test and b) Izod test
14. Determine buckling load in a compressive member made with steel.
