Portfolio Self Reflection

Throughout this year, I have learned that although writing is stressful, it allows for

creativity and individuality. Regardless of the requirements on the assignment, I can write the

way I would like to write and use the word choice that is most like myself. I have learned that I

frequently use nothing words and that I like to add commas as much as I can, which isn’t good

because I end up using comma splices and make my writing weaker.

I have learned that I like to procrastinate when I write. Instead of allowing myself time to

reread and fix before submitting my rough draft, I tend to turn in essays that aren’t my best work.

This is something I need to work on because as school gets more difficult, I need better written

essays; therefore, I need to devote more time to my writing and my schoolwork overall.

My favorite assignment was the literary criticism essay. This was my favorite because the

book I chose was one of the most interesting books I have ever read, and it allowed me to

discover that I do like to read when I find a book I like. I liked the assignment because it helped

me get more involved in the book and I found it was easy because I had read the book in-depth.

When I am given an essay in the future, I will research the topic I am writing about,

unless the essay is about myself. Next, I will create an outline of my writing to know what I want

to write about before I write it. Then, I will create a rough draft that I will read aloud to myself

and others to find the mistakes that I originally did not notice. Finally, I will turn it in on time.
