Deaf, Deaf hood, Deafness Interpreting Analysis:

After reviewing this with video with my mentor I was able to see some areas in

which I could improve. Some noticeable areas was in my register, sentence structuring

and prosody. For example in the beginning of the video I used very casual words such

such as “I had got”, “So today I’m gonna”… these words would be nd in a casual

conversation setting, but this was a video in which the presenter was using a higher

register and I was not matching it well. Even a slight change of wording such as “ I

have received some questions” and “Today I am going to” these slight changes in

speech would increase the register to a more appropriate level. Along with that there

were a few times where I started my sentences with “So” and it would be bene cial to

drop that as a way to increase register as well. In regards to sentence structuring there

were a few times throughout the video where I did not structure my sentences well and

I did not use correct grammar. For example I said “It’s really more of a label that needs

to be xed that doctors look at”. I did not put the correct emphasis on the words at the

beginning and restructuring the sentence would make it much more coherent.

When it comes to prosody one repetitive thing that I have noticed is I need to

increase my lag time to create more cohesion in my speech as well as have a smoother

prosody. From :29 to :36 I should have held o starting to speak and made one smooth

sentence rather than having multiple pauses as the presenter was nishing his

sentences and I was trying to process what was being signed. By increasing my lag

time I could help with prosody and cohesion and make a more coherent sentence

rather than giving bits and pieces at a time.

Overall, there will always be parts of my interpreting that I will want to change or

x. It is important to always be able to look at you work and see areas for improvement

so you can constantly be working to improve as well as being encouraged by the

improvements that you do see.
