Portfolio Reflection

Throughout this school year I have learned some helpful things about writing. The first

thing I learned is nothing words and why they are bad. I used nothing words often before taking

comp this year. I also learned how to conduct scholarly research and properly cite sources in my

writing. I learned that if I can put my mind to it, I can write well, and get my assignments done

efficiently if I’m focused. One other thing I learned was publishing and creating a portfolio

website.

I still need to work on organizing my thoughts and shortening my sentences. Sometimes I

create long sentences for one big idea, but I should chop them up shorter. I believe I should also

work on finding time to read more books. I don’t read very often outside of school and I think

reading more could expand my vocabulary and writing abilities.

I think the college application narrative was the most helpful because it will help me

tremendously in the future when I apply to colleges. I feel the college application narrative is a

great way to start the year of school. The essay helped me get thinking about colleges and the

application process. My favorite assignment was Dr. Seuss day when we got to read his books

and do mad libs. It was a good experience to revisit childhood memories with classmates.
First, I would do some research. Next, I would try and put my sources into noodle tools if

it were an essay where I needed to cite sources. Next, I would organize my thoughts and research

into an organizer. This for me is the most important step. The organizer guides me through the

entire writing process. Next, I would begin writing my rough draft. After the rough draft is

completed, I would self-edit and have a peer edit my essay, so I can catch all the mistakes in it.

After both edits are finished, I would begin fixing all the mistakes. Finally once all mistakes are

fixed and I am happy with the final product the essay is finished.
