Objectives: Students will be able to transition between C and F while playing along to the
video.
Standards Addressed:
Pr.2.5.b When analyzing selected music, read and perform using standard notation
Pr.4.5.b Rehearse to refine technical accuracy and expressive qualities to address challenges,
and show improvement over time.
Lesson Sequence:
Entry:
- Welcome the students, have them sit quietly on their dot criss-cross applesauce.
Activity 1:
- We are going to listen to some GarageBand projects today.
- #6-10 in your class, if you would like to share you can.
- Listen through volunteers from #11-15 projects, next class is #16-20
Assessment:
- Check the projects for the requirements.
Transition:
- Get ukuleles out, practice F while others are getting their ukes out.
Activity 2:
- Review F and C chords
- Have students practice playing with both strumming patterns we have learned so far.
- Check row by row and have students play.
Assessment:
- Can students successfully strum an F and C chord?
Transition:
- Let’s look up here, eyes on me.
Activity 3:
- Demonstrate switching between C and F.
- Explain how fingers can hover over without moving away.
- Have students practice it slowly.
- Have a measure of rest in between, eventually moving to doing it without it.
Assessment:
- Are students able to transition between C and F?
Transition:
- Ukuleles down, eyes up front.
Activity 4:
- Watch the video and find the heartbeat to go along with it.
- Ask about chord changes. How many chords are there?
- Explain that if it’s too difficult, they can choose one chord to stay on.
- Play the chord that best suits them and air strum the one they are struggling with.
- Play the video at a slower speed and have them play.
- Try playing along with the video.
- If time, speed up.

- Are students able to play along with the video?
Transition:
- Let’s put ukuleles away.
Closing:
- Ready for the hall.
