Objectives: Students will be able to identify how the music sounds like the fossils and will be
able to show movement that correlates using their bodies.
Standards Addressed:
Cr.1.K.b With guidance, generate musical ideas (such as movements or motives).
Pr.2.K With guidance, explore and demonstrate awareness of music contrasts (such as
high/low, loud/soft, same/different) in a variety of music selected for performance.
Re.2.K With guidance, demonstrate how a specific music concept (such as beat or melodic
direction) is used in music.
Lesson Sequence:
Entry:
- Welcome the students, have them sit quietly on their dot criss-cross applesauce.
Activity 1:
- Read the book, “Here We Go Digging For Dinosaur Bones”.
- Ask questions about the story.
Assessment:
- Are the students able to answer the questions asked?
Transition:
- I have a video to show you today.
Activity 2:
- Show the introduction video.
- Talk with a partner about what you saw.
- Share with the class what we saw.
- What did the music sound like?
Assessment:
- Are the students participating in the think, pair, share correctly?
Transition:
- Let’s talk about the music we heard.
Activity 3:
- Did you hear what sound was made for the dinosaur bones?
- Watch the video of the marimba playing the song.
- Talk about the other instruments we see.
Assessment:
- Are the students able to identify the marimba part?
Transition:
- Let’s do some movement.
Activity 4:
- Move to the music
- Only move when the marimba is playing.
- How does a skeleton move?
- Quietly, let's try it.
Assessment:
- Are the students able to move to the music in the way we discussed?
Transition:
- Let’s get our packets out for coloring.
Activity 5:
- Pass out packets
- Let students come get crayons.
- Let them color their packets.
