Personal and Professional Goals

Below are listed three short term goals and two long term goals for my nursing career.

Some goals relate to career progression, while some are more personal and address how I plan to

improve myself as a nurse. These goals are important because they will allow me to provide

better care to my patients.

Short Term Goals

• I would like to find a friend who can help keep me accountable in doing things to prevent
burnout such as exercising regularly, getting proper sleep, etc. during my first year of
employment. I would like to establish this accountability relationship by the 3rd month of
the first year.
• I would like to have an established mentor by the 6 month mark of the first year of my
BSN career.
• In the first year of my nursing career, I would like to take some nursing training on how
to deal with patient deaths and how to have death and dying conversations with family
members.
Long Term Goals
• I would like to be competent in medical and conversational Spanish by the end of year 3
of my BSN career. I would like to start going on medical mission trips to Latin America
during year 4 of my BSN career.
• I would like to start a DNP program during year 5 of my BSN career.
